If you’ve been a student of law of attraction for any length of time, you no doubt have heard about the importance of gratitude and appreciation in the manifestation process. All of the self help gurus have the same message when it comes to the role appreciation plays in your ability to deliberately use law of attraction and attract more abundance and prosperity into your life. Do you ever wonder if the advice works and if so, why it works?

I’ve spent a fair amount of time reading and experimenting around the topic in order to understand it better. I think I first heard about the power of gratitude from Abraham in one of their audios. The way they explained it, and I’ve come to understand this as truth, gratitude is a powerful way to bridge the vibrational gap between where you are and what you want (or where you would like to be).

As they explain, most of us find it difficult to shift our thoughts to a, say “level 10″ in vibration, if we’re mired in current thinking that is maybe, say a “level 3″. The gap is too wide.

But finding something you are grateful and appreciative for is much easier. So by placing your focus on things you have right now for which you are thankful, you are able to begin bridge the gap and begin to realign your thoughts to a level of vibration that move you closer to where you want to be.

Using this technique, you can shift yourself to, say a “level 6″ or a “7″ relatively quickly.

Both Abraham and Bob Proctor teach that in order for something to manifest, you must be a vibrational match to it. That’s where gratitude becomes such an important part of effectively and deliberately using Law of Attraction. It assists you in aligning our vibration.

And there’s more. There is a growing body of scientific and academic research that backs up the important role gratitude can play in living a happier, healthier life.

Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar is the head of the Positive Psychology program at Harvard University. In his book, Happier: Learn the Secrets to Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment, Dr Ben-Shahar says that research studies now suggest the habit of keeping a daily “gratitude journal” can lead to a higher level of emotional and physical well being.

So the evidence is pretty clear that it works. If you pay attention, you will see the evidence in your own life. You can “measure” it by the way you feel. Focusing on the things you are grateful for makes you feel better — your problems start to feel smaller, you gain a sense of relief, and because of the relief you are able to shift your focus onto more things you are grateful for.

You are able to “feel” the power of gratitude at work within yourself and “feel” your vibration rising. And as that happens, you know you now on the path to using law of attraction in a deliberate way that best serves you.

There is a big difference between sincere gratitude and profusely saying thank you.

The difference is sincerity, and that affects how the giver feels about giving to you in the future. When you sincerely feel gratitude, then one thank you is enough, even a smile will do, but if you do not have that sincerity, the more you say thank you, the worse it appears.

It is not merely being grateful or appreciative, it is being sincere. If you think about any time you have done or given something to someone and the gratitude was sincere, compared to the times it was not, or no appreciation at all was given, you can recognize what we are talking about.

Now, if you do not know what true gratitude is, then it is difficult to understand this. The problem is that true gratitude is so rare that we do not have the examples to follow to understand what it is to begin with. We will expand on gratitude later in this lesson.

This brings another similar but different topic, that of knowing true quality. We can only know what is good by comparison, that is the law in this world of duality. There is no way to know good without bad. If we refer back to the lesson on the gullibility of humans, and bring that to the discernment of quality of all things, then we can begin to see the dangers of potentially if not probably being misled in our lives and search.

We can be so sure that we know the right thing or the best thing, but that is all limited by our own experience and so when you realize how small you are, or your experience is, relative to the whole planet, never mind the universe, you will start to develop humility if you contemplate and accept how little you actually know.

It is vital to distrust your intellectual mind, reminding yourself that it is not your true self and question all things. If you determine that you know something, then you stop learning. If you innocently accept something as being of high quality or of truth, then you limit your potential to that level. But if you are always questioning and doubting, then you will continually search for more and expand your being.

This is of course in relation to our search for our own self improvement, never use this as a means to judge another human being. It would be the same to say that you wish to acquire knowledge, both of things of the world and knowledge of your own being. If you do not know what you can do, then you cannot achieve it because you have no goal to set your direction. But if you have seen what a human being can do or be, then you have set a new target and potential that is possible for you to reach.

Another pitfall is the thought that all is just as it should be and everything comes in its own time. Perhaps for many things in this world, those things outside ourselves, giving birth to a baby, the opening of a flower, the ripening of a fruit, that may be true, but here we are concerned with the development of the full potential of our own individual being which we are the sole master of and set the limitations, or lack thereof.

If you accept that life will bring to you what you need and you will progress according to an assumed natural progression, so you do not have to work harder or put in any level of exertion, that breeds nothing more than mediocrity. If you are not satisfied with any part of your life, it is wholly up to you to put in continuing more and more effort to change and improve it according to the rules and manner of proven methods. That means you follow the rules of instruction exactly as they are given, not modifying them to suit your personal opinion. If you know so much that you can change the rules, then why have you not achieved all you seek?

Thanking a person is probably one of the best appreciations ever. You cannot make a person’s day in any other better way than by thanking them for all that they have done for you. It is the best way to show them how much you appreciate and value them. In the following few lines, we will talk about different ways of saying thank you to your loved ones and to the people around you.

One of the sweetest ways to thank a person is by sending them gifts. Get them small little things that you think they will need and add a little thank you note to the gift. Chocolates, cakes, flowers and greeting cards are great options that you can consider. You can even opt for small little mementos that they can keep around in their homes and will remind them of you. Photo albums of the two of you can be gifted to someone whom you want to thank for their very presence in your life. If the person is really special to you and you want to really thank them from your heart, you can make them something instead of purchasing it from a shop. Poems, letters, texts, emails and voice mails are also good mediums that you could use to thank someone.

You don’t need to be as good as Shakespeare to use words to say a genuine thank you. If the feelings that you have are sincere and genuine, your message will surely reach their heart. Last but not the least, spelling it out to them is one of the best mediums you can use for a sincere appreciation. If you don’t like beating around the bush too much, walk straight up to them, look into their eyes and tell them how thankful you are to them. You just cannot do any better than this. Your message will reach deeper into their hearts than ever.

Who doesn’t like to be appreciated? It will only motivate them to be more sweet to you in future because they will know that you care. Be it your family members, friends, lover, boss, subordinates, colleagues, classmates or neighbors; even a simple thank you can make them feel very special. It will remind the people in your life that you have not taken them for granted and never will. Never ignore the power that genuine appreciation has over people. Use creative ways to appreciate and thank them for their presence in your life.

The author cdmohatta writes text messages and stuff like thank you poems and words of thanks.

In your circle of friends, or amongst co-workers, or family members, or even from yourself, do you hear more complaining, blaming, criticizing and judging? Or, do you hear the appreciation for things and others in life?

Are you the type of person spreading thanks, cheer and good will, or are you contributing to your own or other people’s doom and gloom?

You can still appreciate life through all its ups and downs and twists and turns. Do you believe it? Are you able to do this?

All you need to do is take a look around you. Notice the beauty in others and all that surrounds you right where you are in this very moment. Try it.

Whether you are having a good day or and an off day, a great week or a terrible one, the importance of gratitude can lift your spirits and shift your mood, and, sometimes even those around you.

Let’s say you are going through a tough phase in your life right now – physically, emotionally, or in a relationship. Perhaps things aren’t going well financially or at work for you or with someone you know, or you may have heard or personally experienced some unsettling news. Appreciating the smallest of things can realign your vibrational frequency from separation to one of connection again.

Whether you are down in the dumps or sitting on top of the world, if you aren’t being thankful perhaps it’s time you start. You have nothing lose and much to be gained.

Right now, no matter where you are in your current surroundings or in your life, you can appreciate something or someone. Even if it’s only one thing today, that’s okay. What’s important is that you are appreciating yourself and something or someone every day.

See if you can hold your attention on what you are thankful for; really focus on it. Start with 15 seconds, then increase it to 30, and then a minute. Really feel it in your body. What are you aware of when you do? Notice how your energy and mood shift as you do so.

Alan Cohen said, “Appreciation is the highest form of prayer, for it acknowledges the presence of good wherever you shine the light of your thankful thoughts”.

You can shine the light of your thankful thoughts towards anyone or anything, and at any time you choose.

What and whom do you appreciate in your life right now?

You can be thankful you woke this morning.

You can appreciate your work and that you are able to work.

You can be grateful for your home, family and friends.

You can give thanks for your life just the way it is.

You can be grateful for your freedom.

You can value yourself and others.

You can welcome the unexpected and the lessons you will learn.

You can appreciate nature and all its splendor with each passing day and season.

You can let others know how thankful you are that they are in your life.

You can give thanks for being you.

You can appreciate your body and all that it allows you to do.

You can be thankful for all or as many of the 5 senses that you have.

You can value the vast diversities in this wonderful universe.

You can be grateful you are breathing at this very minute.

You can be thankful for the “things” in your life like computers, phones, clothes, buildings, planes, cars, etc.

You can be grateful for the food that nourishes your body.

You can give thanks for what inspires you to be the best you can be.

You can value your life and others each and every day.

There is so much you can appreciate right where you are in this exact moment!

The most important thing is to make time each and every day to appreciate what and whom is in your life.

When things aren’t going well for you or for someone you know, you might find yourself not wanting to be thankful or wondering how or why you should be at this time.

Acknowledge the feeling(s) and then remind yourself that you do have a choice of remaining in this mindset if you so choose. Or if you want, you can elevate and often alleviate these emotions by appreciating something or someone.

Go ahead, give it try. What do you have to lose?

Immerse yourself in gratitude each and every day and watch the miracles unfold around you as you do.

When others do helpful and positive things for you there are several ways that you can show them your gratitude and appreciation. This is important because people respond to being appreciated and unless you do this the chance of them doing something else for you may be less. Showing gratitude is abut giving the other person ‘positive strokes’ which are sadly lacking in many areas of life when there are expectations about what someone does for you.

1. Say thank you with a smile

What you say and how you say it is a most important part of showing appreciation. Just saying those two words will enable the person helping you to know you appreciate what they’ve done for you. The smile is important as it enhances the words, shows you are a friendly person and increases the level of gratitude as experienced by the other person. You can raise someone’s morale by saying ‘thank-you’ when you get off a bus or an aeroplane, or you are served food in a restaurant.

2. Offer to do something for them

Some people call this the ‘law of reciprocation’. When someone does something for you then you feel an obligation to return the favour and do something for them. However this is also a great way to show gratitude and appreciation because many people who help others do not expect anything in return so they are overwhelmed and grateful to you for what you do for them. You may not reciprocate immediately but eventually an opportunity will arise when you can offer to help them in an appropriate manner.

3. Tell others about what has been done for you

You might talk to friends or business colleagues and explain what help you’ve received form someone. By spreading the word about how that person has been helpful and kind means that they realise how much you’ve appreciated what they did for you and also lets others know who they can call on if they too would like some help with a similar challenge. People like to have recommendations when they are looking for help.

4. Write testimonials.

If the person doing something has a business or a web site then send them a written testimonial they can use to enhance their business. Or you could send a letter or postcard through the post to let them know how happy and grateful you are to them for what they did for you.

Whether someone is just doing their job, volunteering or exceeding expectations, gratitude goes such a long way. Genuine, intangible, heartfelt gratitude and appreciation. It is the most powerful form of recognition that anyone can provide. And it’s incredibly wonderful to be on the receiving end. The positive energy aka positive vibes are so strong, it is sometimes possible to see the physical effects. It ignites others. And most of all, it feels great for everyone involved.

This morning I had the privilege of spending time with a very good friend, Jeff Ansell, who does communications and media training. Jeff knows that every time I talk about the tragic death of my mother and sisters, I have trouble controlling my tears. In order to prepare me for my upcoming book launch, Jeff offered to pull out the big guns and provide me with some anti-crying strategies. No guarantees of course, but at least the tears will be less immobilizing.

I picked Jeff up at 6 am so we could drive downtown together and beat the traffic. The first thing he did when he saw me was to thank me so much for picking him up. (He is helping and training me, and he’s thanking me. I would have picked him up in North Bay!) But that sweet and sincere “thank you” set the tone immediately. And then I watched as Jeff spread his magic throughout the early morning hours. We stopped for breakfast and he thanked the parking attendant, he thanked the host at the restaurant, he thanked the waiter, he thanked the chef. He doled out continuous, genuine, intangible, heartfelt gratitude and appreciation by saying thank you (really saying thank you) and smiling at each and every one of them. He did it so naturally and so sincerely, I don’t even think he realized the effect he was having on these people. But I did. They smiled back. They obviously felt his gratitude for them and for what they did, despite the fact that they were just doing their job.

He appreciated them. They appreciated him. It was like watching a gift exchange.

I can say with complete confidence that not a day has gone by where I haven’t thought about my family who I lost over 40 years ago. And I can also say without any doubt, that both Barry and I are where we are today because we have valued and appreciated so many people along the way. An invitation for dinner, a ride somewhere, a cup of coffee, an old table and chairs… no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, we were grateful. We said thank you. The feel good kind of thank you. Because we meant it.

Having each lost so much as children, we learned early on that you never take anything for granted. We truly appreciated and valued anything and everything that others did for us. Gratitude was always our underlying attitude. And now that we are in a position to give back, we love the genuine thanks and appreciation we continuously receive. Giving, getting, appreciating, thanking – it’s a continuous positive cycle.

When someone says thank you and really means it, their gratitude makes its way right into your heart. I think we are incredibly lucky to understand and appreciate the value of gratitude in life.

It continues to amaze me that there are people like Jeff who thank others profusely for the smallest things, and sadly, there are others who will take and take without ever feeling grateful.

Ungratefulness breeds greed and jealousy.

Gratitude breeds abundance.

If you were told that the easiest and most effective way of positively affecting your life was the simple act of expressing appreciation and gratitude for all that you have, would you believe it? I want to share some of the secrets of gratitude and appreciation and how harnessing its power can affect positive changes in all areas of your life. Practicing the art of appreciation and gratitude for as little as 5 minutes a day can dramatically change not only your outlook on life but change your reality as well.

Appreciation is a powerful emotion and when used daily leads to higher levels of happiness and joy. When you appreciate what you have, you raise your awareness of everything that is going on in your life. You focus on what’s working for you and more things begin to work. The more grateful you are and the more you really feel that gratefulness the more you will experience positive change.

It is a real challenge to hold a negative thought when you put yourself into the state of appreciation and gratitude. When you know what you can achieve be grateful for that, take appropriate inspired action and you will achieve what you want. Focus on only positive thoughts as positive thoughts push out the negative thoughts creating abundant possibilities.

When you feel grateful for your life, you move from doing grateful to being grateful. With practice gratitude and appreciation becomes part of your identity. After spending 5 minutes a day focusing on how appreciative you are you begin to activate your appreciation muscle then you start saying in your mind ‘thank you’ all day long. You say thank you for catching the bus; thank you for your delicious cup of coffee; thank you for finding something you thought you had lost; thank you for an inspired thought etc What I do each day is write a list of everything that I am grateful for. I do this in a lovely journal and it is the easiest way to attract more abundance into my life right now.

Attracting conscious gratitude and appreciation into you life is a change that takes practice. Start small, particularly if your appreciation muscle hasn’t been exercised for a while! Be appreciative of what you find inspiring during your day; a beautiful sun rise, a straightforward journey to work, a delightful chat with someone you care about, a delicious evening meal whatever it is write it down and be oh so grateful for these wonders in your life.
Nothing like a little “atta boy” to lift the spirits and make you want to do your very best for those around you. A little appreciation can go a long way and it’s a wonderful gift to give.

In our homes, things are a little more personal and most of us try to take plenty of time for our family to let them know how much we appreciate what they do. Show some extra care though this time of year and help out a little extra around the house. Make breakfast, or some other job, to give another family member a break from their typical routine. Be especially attentive to your spouse and family members. Hugs and kisses go a long way in many families.

There are also those colleagues inside and outside of your business who go out of their way to make sure that you’ve got what you need to get your job done. Among these colleagues could be your personal work staff, printers, distributors, delivery companies, caterers, couriers; anyone who helps to make sure your job is done well, and gets done on time.

It’s very necessary at this time of year to say, “Thank you,” from a sincere heart. We should let all of our colleagues know that without their hard work, great ideas and expertise, we would have been lost without them.

It may take a little character adjustment for some of us to do this for fear of gushing all over someone when you go out of your way to make your thanks known. It’s not “phony” or being a “brown nose” to show simple appreciation to those who have done well to make your job a little easier. Working in a little thankfulness with sincerity will often be reciprocated. Who among us really doesn’t love to feel appreciated and needed?

Let’s not forget those out of jobs, or in dire situations. Food banks and homeless shelters, in our city, are needing supplies more than ever. Give of your heart to donate time or money to those who really are financially stressed and burdened. A kind word, a soft touch, a look of understanding or just listening with care can be a great gift of support and comfort to those in need.

Take it upon yourself to give forgiveness and overlook the wrongs done to you by others. It only hurts you if you don’t. Put a smile on your face, plant some joy in your heart and know that you make a difference in this world. Show others that they do too. Appreciation is a wonderful gift to give.

May God bless you all and let His light to shine upon you.

I wanted to give you tools to help you stay grateful during Thanksgiving and Holiday Season and beyond. Gratitude has so many spiritual, emotional and physical benefits. I would love for you to experience them all. According to Miami University’s Dr. Michael McCullough and University of California – Davis’s Dr. Robert Emmons, being thankful is necessary for a healthy life style. Studies show that being grateful increases your level of happiness by 25 percent.

Being grateful is a choice. It’s about learning from a situation, taking the good out of it to help deal with the challenge. It’s about celebrating ” what is ” in life. It’s about realizing you have more power over your life and thoughts, emotions and energy then you previously imagined. You can stop being a victim of your circumstance and reach out for the joy rising in living. If you can open your heart to the good all around, gratitude can become as much part of your life as breathing.

Here are a few helpful suggestion to help you get started on your gratitude practice.

1) Keep a Daily Gratitude Journal This is probably the most effective strategy for increasing your level of gratitude. Set aside time daily to record several things that you are grateful for. You can write when you get up or at the end of the day. Pick a time that you will consistently have available. The important thing is to establish the daily practice of paying attention to gratitude-inspiring events and to write them down. My forthcoming book Gratitude-The Ultimate 21 Day Gratitude Journey to Happiness will be available shortly to help you keep a gratitude practice.

2) Use Visual Reminders Two obstacles to being grateful are forgetfulness and lack of awareness. You can counter them by giving yourself visual cues that trigger thoughts of gratitude. I like to use Post-It notes listing blessings in many places, including on refrigerator, mirrors and the steering wheel of my car. You can get as creative as you want you can even use your camera to take photos of what your grateful and put them in an album. Another strategy is to set a pager, computer or PDA to signal you at random times during the day and to use the signal to pause and count blessings.

3) Have a Gratitude Partner Social support encourages healthy behaviors, because we often lack the discipline to do things on our own. Just as you may be more likely to exercise if you have an exercise partner or participate in a class, you may be able to maintain the discipline of gratitude more easily if you have a partner with whom to share gratitude lists and to discuss the effects of gratitude in your life. You can join our community on face book called Gratitude- The Ultimate 21 Day Gratitude Journey to Happiness. “If you hang out with ungrateful people, you will ‘catch’ one set of emotions or energy; if you choose to associate with more grateful individuals, the influence will be in another direction. Find a grateful person or community and spend more time.

4) Make a Public Commitment When we become accountable and we make commitments to others we are more likely to follow through. Feel free to use our gratitude community on face book to make your public declaration or to post your daily gratitude. There is plenty of support.

5) Change Your Self-Talk We all carry on an inner dialogue with ourselves that is often called “self-talk.” When this inner conversation is negative, our mood is usually low. Research has shown that we can change our mood by changing the tone of the things we say to ourselves. Thoughts are powerful make sure to watch what you think about. Affirmations are great tools in reconditioning our thoughts.

6. Go On a Gratitude Walk Something about getting out in nature is healing research shows exercise can decrease stress and releases the” feel good “chemicals in your brain. Giving thanks helps you become centered, present and living in the moment. When you are grateful for the beauty around you automatically you will find more beauty to be grateful for.

I hope these suggestion help you. If you have not done so be sure to sing up for our newsletter and receive our free audio ” Living ignited with Self-Love and Inner Peace”. Namaste.

Showing gratitude for your life can make the difference between taking life for granted and experiencing a fully enriched life full of joy and contentment.

Showing gratitude causes the seemingly simple things in your life to become magnified and appreciated. You begin to extract the joy out of every moment and every event in your life you encounter. In this state of gratitude, your vibration is elevated and you feel satisfied within.

Start with something small

If you feel like you have nothing to be grateful for, start with something small – at least something that you take for granted each day. When you lay in your bed express gratitude for a warm comfy bed that you could snuggle up in every night. How about your warm cozy blanket? And as you lay there, let your mind think about other people who have no bed, no blanket and send love and comfort to them. Say a prayer for them and feel your level of appreciation soar. This can be a very sobering exercise especially when we’re complaining about how bad things are with us. Take it a step further and share with someone in need.

Show gratitude to the people in your life

Now is the time to show gratitude to your partner, your children and your friends while they’re here with you. Don’t wait for when your children are all grown up to begin to show gratitude for even having them – although if you’ve never done it when they were at home, now is a good time to start.

Express gratitude to your partner, this may be the turning point in your relationship that’s needed to bring you both closer together. Decide what’s most important here.

Make gratitude a mindset and a lifestyle

When you make gratitude a habit you’ll see everything through the eyes of appreciation. Practice the habit of gratitude as soon as you awake every morning, throughout the day and the last thing before you go to sleep. A life filled with gratitude radiates joy and connects you to peace.

Whenever troublesome situations come look for the good even in its smallest form and shift into gratitude mode. You’ll learn to appreciate everything and take nothing for granted. Familiarity causes us to take things for granted after their initial excitement is over. However, gratitude brings renewed appreciation each day and helps us see the familiar from a fresh perspective.

By the way, if you’d like to learn more simple yet effective ways to become self-empowered so you can change your life, I’d like to invite you to claim your Free Instant Access to Changing Inside Out Now!
