Health Has More to Do With State of Mind Than You Might Realize

beliefsBy Valerie OlmstedHealth has more to do with state of mind than most people realize. It is possible to actually think oneself into illness, merely by feeling it. Monks in Tibet are not the only ones who can raise their body temperature by many degrees and get a cold wet sheet steaming. Most children can do that, especially when they really don’t want to go to school that day. That was my favorite trick used to convince my mom (the nurse) that I really should not go to school with a fever. Convinced that I wasn’t really ill, she would whip out that thermometer, only to find that indeed, there was quite a fever present. Mom was always amazed at how quickly the fever abated by the end of the day.

At one point in my life I had all the symptoms of MS (Multiple Sclerosis). A long-time meditator, I decided I really didn’t have time in my life for such a disease. Getting to the core of the issue in meditation, I discovered that I was angry; really angry-at myself. Working on forgiving myself for being a chump yet again, I also forgave whoever was the perpetrator of my dis-ease within myself. That was the end of all of the MS symptoms and my clue that MS is anger turned inwards.

The body is very mysterious in its’ ways and it works with the Non-local Mind to give us clues on the path of evolution. We can literally think ourselves into disease states, albeit usually unconsciously. Alice Bailey’s book Who’s The Matter With Me? And Louise Hays’ series point out how this all happens to all of us. If you are wondering if I am saying that we cause our diseases, let me be blunt about it: yes. Deal with it…you are the only one who really can.

Every disease we get is there for a reason and will stay there, and even kill us, if we refuse to pay attention to what it is trying to tell us. Even genetic diseases are in this category. A lot of people don’t want to hear this and might get very angry at someone for saying this, but that doesn’t change the truth. If we can just look at what we receive as a gift or a lesson, we can use that disease to get beyond some issue that may have been a problem for several lifetimes.

My own knowledge of this came through my NDE’s (Near Death Experiences), when I was shown how the Universe and life on Earth works. When one is on the Other Side, this is all easy and makes sense. When one is back in the body, it is all difficult and makes very little sense. It has to do with being able to see the Big Picture. Now every illness serves as a reminder to me to stop and pay attention to my life. The weird thing is, my body starts talking to me well in advance of the illness appearing. Multiple warnings are given, then-WHAM!-illness hits if I have ignored the warnings. Now if I need a few days of rest, I just take them. I cancel social gatherings and anything else I can, whatever I need to do to get more rest. When you love yourself AND your body, you learn to take care of yourself…to respect yourself.

Can You Think Yourself to Health?

This is a provocative question to which I don’t have a definitive answer, but I do think it’s worth considering how our minds can affect our well-being and specifically our physical health. Have you ever been really worried about something and suddenly found yourself with a stomach ache? Or, on the flip side, have you ever hurt yourself and found that the pain went away when you did something fun or had a really good laugh?

There are countless examples of people recovering from a range of illnesses and health challenges in ways that defy the accepted biomedical model. Writer and editor Norman Cousins recovered from a life-threatening form of arthritis by refusing to accept an incurable diagnosis and cultivating positive emotions and thoughts during his recovery. He watched funny movies in the hospital and discovered that hearty laughter had a pain-relieving effect that lasted for hours. (His book about his experiences, Anatomy of an Illness, was a national bestseller.)

In the early 1980s, scientist Candace Pert and others discovered that protein molecules in the brain called peptides link with receptors throughout the body to cause fundamental changes in the cells–that, in fact, an integrated communication network exists in the body that connects brain, body, and behavior. Subsequent studies in neuroscience, endocrinology, and immunology have continued to demonstrate that this “intelligence network” is operating at all times and that consciousness is an integral part of this system.

Deepak Chopra, a pioneer of mind-body medicine, takes this further to describe a quantum model of health and healing in which the body and our state of health are manifestations of our consciousness, a reflection of the continuous flux of electrical energy vibrations that becomes information. He suggests that the body is, in fact, not a structure but a process, which therefore can change and be changed at any time. In this model, the biochemistry of the body is a product of our awareness.

Talk about food for thought! For some people, just becoming aware of your negative thoughts can shift how you feel. It’s not about blaming yourself or feeling bad if you struggle with some negativity or worry — most of us do. Many forms of mind-body therapy, qigong, yoga, and meditation can serve as excellent tools to cultivate more positive streams of consciousness. Affirmations also help interrupt negative thought patterns and can contribute to increased well being. You can try saying something as simple as “I have a powerful sense of well-being” throughout the day, and especially any time you are feeling less than fully vibrant and well. See if you notice your mood or physical symptoms improve.

Alcohol and Drug Addiction – Denial is a Big Part of It

drinkandkeysBy Peter M. BrunoMost people do not think that they have any kind of addiction problem. We think that what we are doing is fine with us and everyone else involved. But, what we don’t see, is how we are effecting the people that care about us, and also where our lives are headed to.

We are basically heading down a dead end street. But, it’s a street that you can turn around on if you choose to.

Sometimes we are in so much Denial that we just can not see what is going on in our lives. But, all the people around us can see it just fine. They have asked you to quit, and tell you how you act when under the influence, but we just ignore their opinions and tell them to mind their own business.

Alcohol Addiction is all about Denial. We see nothing wrong with our addiction but, the world around us does.
If only we can see what is going on around us, and admit that we do have a problem, is when you will see the light. When you finally admit that you are in denial is when you will be able to start to help yourself.

When I finally admitted I had a real problem, I just put my arms up in the air and said that I give up, and that the demons inside have won. They have changed my life for the worse. They have done what they set out to do, which is to seek and destroy, and now it’s time to put a stop to them forever.

So, the moral of the story is, that when you finally admit to your Alcohol and Drug Addiction and say that denial was a big part of it, is when you can feel free again and be able to start on your road to recovery.

Sobriety is the greatest thing in the world, so really try hard to achieve it. You won’t be sorry, I did it, and it has changed my life forever.

Make My Dreams Come True – 5 Things You Can Do Right Now to Move Towards What You Want!

Dreams become reality – that is an absolute truth of our life which I can verify from my own rags to riches story. My life is full of things right now which were ones just dreams in my mind. In this article I will write some simple steps you can take right now to put the process into action for making your dreams come true. You will most likely require focus, time, energy, and persistence at some point on your path, but here I will offer purely the beginning of your journey to turn your fantasy into reality.

1. Determine exactly what it is that you deeply desire – what dream you want to come true.

Many people out there are pursuing someone else’s dream and they don’t even realise it. If you want to make your dreams come true, you must first have an extremely accurate and definite idea of what your dream is.

This means that:

* You are absolutely certain that this is what you want – no changing your mind later.
* You are as specific as possible about what it is that you want. You don’t want to “be wealthy”, you want to, for example, “make $50k in the next 6 months by selling used cars.” Be specific and as definite as possible about your dream!

If it helps, start writing down the details of your dream. Tweak it until you know in your core that this is exactly the thing you want.

2. Energize your idea – visualize it as realistically and emphatically as possible.

Once you have a pin-point idea of your dream you must empower it. Energizing at idea is the pre-requisite to having something you are motivated about. Anything in your life which you are motivated about you will have an energized concept of in your head – this is the way the human mind works.

How do you energize your idea?

Hold the idea in your mind and make it as vivid and realistic as possible. If the image of yourself, and there definitely should be an image of yourself in there, is a third person image then you should “drop into” the image so that you take a first-person perspective of yourself.

You must focus as much as possible and inject vivid and active energy into this idea. If you’re charging your dream correctly then you will begin to feel emotions in response to this process. I have wrote articles detailing this process on my website given below.

3. Take action, and be courageous when your dream calls for it.

You must begin to take action – sooner rather than later. That means you should physically and realistically be doing things to move closer to your goal. If you need to make a plan, then make a plan.

Occasionally these actions will call for a great degree of courage, that’s to be expected – after all you are changing your life. That means you will be expanding your comfort zone.

These actions which require courage are the most important to take. If you are struggling, return to step 1 and 2 – ensure you definitely want this thing, and energize it more strongly.

4. Surround yourself with things congruent with your desired reality.

Don’t make things any harder than you have to – surround yourself with things and people that enforce your dream into your reality. If you are dreaming about one day buying and living in a log cabin on the beach, get a picture of one, put it on your wall. Start bookmarking web-sites where you can purchase land or property by the beach.

This may sound insane, but it’s not. This is part of your reality transition. You must begin taking these steps if you want your dream to come true!

Find people who are conductive to your idea, and tell them about it. If this means making new friends, then get out there and do it. Anyone who causes abrasion against your idea – ask them to start being supportive or cut them off. They will do nothing but hinder you. Is this harsh? Perhaps. But how much do you really want this?

5. Remain focused, decisive, and persistent – don’t sway from your path.

You will be tested on your path towards making your dream come true. You must remain focused. Don’t keep changing your mind about what you want or what to do. If you do that, you end up with the other 98% of the people on the planet who are wandering around without a clue. If you want to realise your dream then you must remain focused on it without completely changing your mind about what you want every few days – this highlights the absolute importance of step 1!

Tony Robbins defined success as, “Conducting your life in such a way that it gives you tons of pleasure and very little pain.” By that definition, success would be, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the best possible way to restore, promote, protect and enjoy the highest possible level of physical and mental health.

Stress has been the subject of more than 20,000 scientific studies and according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, stress accounts for two-thirds of family doctor visits and half the deaths to Americans under the age of 65.

So, if stress is such a health hazard, how can it best be avoided? Over three decades of clinical work have shown me that the best possible way of avoiding the effects of stress is to be passionately involved in something that we love to do.

A mind actively involved in pleasant and creative work has no place or time for stress. That is the reason that so many highly successful individuals are still hard at work when it’s way past retirement age. These people have understood that life is about growing and evolving.

So long as a man is happily involved in a self-growth process, there are very few chances that disease will strike. Pleasant work is never health threatening. The mind and the body require exercise. The adage that says, “What you don’t use, you loose” is true. It could be said that the body is more likely to rust-out than wear-out.

Our physiology (body chemistry) is directly affected, either advantageously or adversely, by the mood that we are in. This fact has been confirmed by studying people affected with Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder.) Patients with that condition may be diabetic under one personality and normal while under another one. Eye color changes along with extreme variations in blood pressure have also been know to occur as the personality changes from one to another.

Another classic that shows the powerful influence of a person’s mood on the healing process is Norman Cousin’s story. Mr. Cousin, a prominent political journalist, author, professor, and world peace advocate, was diagnosed with a form of arthritis then called Marie-Strumpell’s disease (ankylosing spondylitis.) and was told that he had little chance of surviving the condition.

Faced with that very gloomy prognostic, Mr. Cousin decided to leave the hospital and move to a beautiful hotel suite where some of his comedian friends could come and entertain him. To his amazement, he discovered that spending quality time with upbeat people had a very powerful therapeutic effect.

In a matter of months, he completely recovered from the illness and spent the remaining of his life-giving lecture advocating the healing power of laughter. His story was published in a book called, The Anatomy of an Illness and a movie based on the book was made.

Every expert agrees that our moods and feelings have a profound effect of our health and wellbeing. Many forms of arthritis, some cancer and other debilitating diseases are also known to be highly influenced by stress and other emotional disorders. The states of our mind and body are most intimately related. What affects one, affects the other.

The prescription for health is simple. Live your life in a fashion that it provides tons of pleasure and very little pain. It’s the secret for wellbeing and it’s also the description and definition of success.

So if you are planning on booking a last minute holiday, taking a relaxing holiday to a more tranquil location could be the perfect answer, relax and unwind without additional worry.

Lastly if you do travel and are unlucky enough to catch the virus, you should remember that in most cases the virus is only as bad as a bad case of the flu and with “over the counter” remedies you can help to reduce symptoms to a manageable level. In the worst cases of the virus, you should seek medical advice from local doctors or hospital to be safe.

At work consider hiring some part time help for the holidays.Many people will jump at the opportunity to earn a little extra cash at this time of the year.

Third, stick to your normal sleep schedule. It is essential you get at least 8 hours sleep during this busy time of the year.

Fourth, eat healthy, skipping meals and eating a lot of fast food meals is not the answer to staying healthy. It is essential you eat three good meals a day to maintain a good energy level.

Fifth, don’t skip exercise or meditation or Yoga or whatever you do to keep you balanced. It is more important now at this stressful time of the year then during your normal day to day routine.

Lastly, if you feel that you maybe coming down with something take care of yourself.Get rest, eat properly and take some over the counter medication. If this is not working you may want to pay your doctor a visit so they can stop it before it gets worse.

Simply diet strictly for 6 days before your holiday party and then take the party day off and enjoy all your favorite foods. This is not some crazy idea, in fact adding a high calorie meal in order to boost your fat burning metabolism has been highly researched and used successfully by thousands of real life dieters and it will work for you.
