Now the holiday season is almost upon us many people will be worrying about how much weight they are going to put on and will want to know how to lose weight after Christmas and the holiday season. There are so many temptations at this time of year, all those yummy mince pies and Christmas puddings, not to mention the Christmas cake and all those well meaning, but naughty presents of delicious boxes of chocolates. They are so hard to resist!

But why should you resist? You have worked so hard during the year and you deserve some treats! Depriving yourself of treats all the time will only make you feel bad and lead to cravings. In the end you will give in to these cravings and overindulge in them. So don’t be too hard on yourself. Just relax the rules for the holiday period, let go and enjoy yourself. There is no need to go mad, but a few treats are not going to do too much damage and as long as you make sure to get some exercise, like going for a nice walk after dinner, you will be just fine.

After the holiday season is over here are some simple weight loss tips to help you get back on track:

1. Never skip breakfast Eating breakfast will help maintain your energy levels and avoid the hunger pangs that could lead you to eat those chocolate bars, crisps and fizzy cola drinks. If you do not feel hungry enough for breakfast in the morning it is probably because you have eaten too much for dinner. Try eating smaller meals for dinner as this will make you feel more hungry in the morning. Eating 3 well balanced meals a day (including breakfast) at regularly intervals will help you to feel full and satisfied and avoid the temptation to eat between meals. It will also help speed up your metabolism.

2. Eat more high fibre food Wholemeal bread, brown rice, wholewheat pasta and wholegrain cereals are all high in fibre. Also fresh and dried fruit, vegetables, peas, beans and lentils as well as seeds and nuts. Foods that are high in fibre usually take longer to chew, so this will slow down your eating and help you enjoy your food more. High fibre food takes longer to digest so it stays longer in the stomach and will help to make you feel full up for longer.

3. Take regular exercise Taking regular exercise will help with your weight loss plan. It does not have to be anything too strenuous. Something simple like walking will help. Try leaving the car at home and taking the bus to work. Get off one stop before your normal bus stop and walk the extra distance. Take a walk during your lunch break, even if it is just taking a walk around the shops and doing some window shopping. Walk up the stairs instead of taking the lift. Maybe try some aerobic exercises, but be sure to warm up first, start off slowly and build up gradually.

Just making a few minor adjustments to your lifestyle can make a big impact on your weight loss efforts. So have a happy Christmas, relax and enjoy yourself. Follow these simple weight loss tips and you will soon be able to lose weight after Christmas and the holiday season.

By Nick Arrizza, M.D. -

Obesity has become one of the of the more challenging of health conditions around the world. Although there are many approaches to dealing with it few, in my view, ever address its unconscious driving forces; poor self image and low self esteem. These two emotional factors initiate and perpetuate the tendency towards obesity.

They are also exacerbated by the condition thereby setting up a vicious negative spiral from which many find it impossible to extricate themselves. Doing so means having the courage to face the deeper emotional roots of poor self image and low self esteem and permanently release them from the unconscious mind and body. So what are these deeper emotional roots?

Well, this is akin to asking why anyone would ever have a poor self image or low self esteem. Many of you might think it’s because of all of those societal messages that subtly and not so subtly invalidate your inherent attractiveness as a human being. Well here you would only be partly correct. The problem actually began well before you were ever exposed to those messages.

You see, many individuals, carry negative memories from early life in the unconscious mind that they identify with and with which are associated negative messages about who and how attractive they are. These memories consist of traumatic events as seen through the eyes of a child that essentially leaves them feeling unwanted, unloved, neglected, bad, ignored, invalidated, defective, deficient, inadequate, useless, and ugly and so on.

Worst of all when an individual complacently accepts as truth and identifies with these internally stored messages they are left with no other option but to dislike who and what they are. Negative feelings of low self esteem, poor self image and low self worth become constant painful internal emotional threats that must be parried and pacified in order to feel comfortable, at ease and peaceful.

The need to keep these painful feelings at bay leads to the adoption of numerous strategies, i.e. often classified as addictions, all of which attempt to suppress, bury or distract one’s self from feeling and becoming incapacitated by the negative feelings. The individual who learns to use food as a pacifier at an early age may continue this compensatory approach to the internal pain eventually culminating in obesity.

This strategy which attempts to bury emotional discomfort also leads to a partial desensitization to the physical discomfort of the obese condition itself. The awareness of this discomfort which is supposed to act as a self regulatory mechanism then fails. Sadly the approach to coping with the emotional turmoil is also untenable because the emotions don’t go away they only go underground temporarily. What’s more they become accentuated by the emotional repercussion of being obese.

So the individual is faced with a growing onslaught of negative emotions as well as the health problems of the obesity that result. So what is the solution to breaking this cycle?

Well it becomes imperative to completely erase the original early unconsciously stored negative memories behaving as what I call “emotional landmines” and which drive the internal emotional turmoil. In other words one must permanently diffuse the negative emotional charge that emanates from these memories. The only way to do that is to completely eradicate the memories themselves. So what does that mean?

Well it effectively means one must effectively “erase the past” as it is stored in the person’s consciousness. Although there are many modalities that attempt to simply decrease the emotional charge of such negative memories it has been my experience that that alone will not yield permanent results. It’s much like the metaphor of the weed growing in the garden, unless one pulls it from the root it will simply re-grow.

Over 10 years ago while working as a psychiatrist I learned this sad fact and it completely changed my view of many of the “therapies” I had been employing until then. It also sprouted a powerful new insight as to how one could completely and permanently erase negative memories from the mind/body. This new insight evolved into a powerful new coaching modality that is able to challenge many of the beliefs we have about why the past cannot be erased.

It turns out that negative memories, while stored in a person’s mind/body tend to deplete them of what I call their Life Force Energy. This is experienced in many ways but one of note is a deep feeling of emptiness that individuals desperately need to fill in order to avoid feeling like they are going to fragment or disintegrate emotionally. Individuals with obesity simply happen to choose food as their solution to this inner feeling of emptiness.

Unfortunately the only thing that will fill it is their depleted Life Force Energy. It turns out that this process as it erases the offending negative memories from the mind/body it causes a spontaneous return of this vital energy to that mind/body. The individual experiences this as feelings of wholeness and completeness. In other words the driving force for all the over eating disappears thus breaking the cycle.

Now, I must give a simple word of caution here. This process, albeit simple and straightforward doesn’t happen all at once rather it is an evolutionary journey to wellbeing and happiness. This is because such individuals often have many negative memories of early life that must be erased. So in effect what is experienced is a progressive accumulation of self empowerment, self esteem, enhanced awareness and self control. As they begin to feel “filled in emotionally” their need to fill themselves with food externally disappears.

Weight loss can be achieved through a number of things, the most popular of which is diet and exercise. However, without the right motivation and adequate commitment, it can never be achieved.

By Jenny Knight -

Everyone who has ever been overweight knows the struggle of getting that fit and lean figure. It’s a sad truth, but not all of us are created equally. Some people were born into this world a little more endowed than others. But is that their fault that they have to agonize over getting something that’s good for them? No. But life’s that way. It gives you reasons to try and try even harder. So don’t feel depressed just yet when you find yourself not getting any thinner or younger. If it seems like you are losing the battle, take a look at the lives of the heroines of physical reformation stories themselves… Hollywood celebrities!

Take Anne Hathaway for example. She was a voluptuous woman when she entered showbiz. But she had trimmed down her weight a bit, in order to match roles in movies she starred in (The Devil Wears Prada and Get Smart). Anne was a fan of small frequent feedings and exercise. She trained with Jessica Alba’s instructor to get a stronger body and made sure her food choices were always healthy and nutritious. Today, she has a leaner figure to match her pretty face.

Now, Jessica Alba herself began her career in Hollywood a little heavier than her current self. And to think, she had a baby last 2008. How come she was still able to maintain her dreamy figure? Well, Jessica applied a little discipline and hard work daily. Her diet was controlled, with carb intake monitored – which means no bread and desserts. But she does not deprive her self of cravings though as she indulges in little piece of cake when the mood calls for it. Partnered with a daily exercise routine, which lasts for about 45 minutes, and consist of some cardio and core muscle work out, and she remains hot and very young looking at 29.

Beyonce also has her runs with weight gain but she embraces the challenge of weight loss by buying clothes one size less her current and motivates her self to healthily get into them by the next months. She runs and lifts weights, eats small frequent meals, and detoxifies her body regularly.

If there is anything that these stars want to impress, it is that they were/are just like us – in a constant tug-of-war with weight. But what they try to do to pull themselves out of the slump is continually motivate themselves and apply discipline and fidelity in carrying out their plans. Diet and exercise do work. But it is only with commitment that they provide results. Yes, we may not be created equal. Some may have a slower metabolism, a bigger bone structure, or more fat to burn. But weight loss is not an impossible feat to accomplish given the right supply of drive.

Emotional eating is a more common issue than many people realise.

If you’re an emotional eater, don’t feel bad – it is possible to control this misunderstood eating disorder.

This simple action plan should help you stop comfort eating once and for all:

Admit you need help – just by reading this article you are admitting that you have an issue with turning to food when faced with certain emotions. Now, just make that admission more public. Begin opening up to the people in your life who you trust to help you overcome your emotional eating habits. Tell them you are determined to change things and ask for their support. This is the hardest step – so get it over with and then the rest of the process will seem easier once your eating is out in the open!

Realise it’s not about the food – emotional eating has little, if anything, to do with food. It’s actually about trying to avoid feeling certain emotions, either because they are too painful (for negative emotions) or because you don’t believe you deserve to experience them (for positive emotions). The foods that you are reaching for are just a way of anaesthetising yourself from emotional pain or pleasure. Many people choose cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, gambling or sex addictions – yours is food. The food is just the medium you have chosen. Once you realise this, it becomes much easier to break the emotional eating cycle and allow yourself to heal from the pain you are hiding from.

Give yourself permission to feel – perhaps you were brought up to believe that experiencing feelings was weak or indulgent. Now is the time to give yourself permission to feel all the range of emotions possible, from the best to the worst, without reaching for food to hide behind.

Seek professional help – if you feel that your comfort eating is too complex for you to overcome alone, seek the advice of an emotional eating specialist to help you address the issue.

Eating is a wonderful activity that is both pleasurable and is often enjoyed as part of a social activity. Eating the right food refuels our body with that vital nutrients that our body requires so that we have the physical energy to carry out the activities in our professional and personal life and maintain a level of overall well-being.

However, eating does not always lead to well-being. Many of the food in our modern day diet contains empty calories as a result of processing, saturated fats and additives like sugar. Also, many people, especially working adults lead stressful, sedentary and desk bound lifestyle and maintains low to moderate level of exercise that is insufficient to burn the extra calories they ingest from food and regulate the stress that builds up in their systems. Left unchecked over time, this can lead to serious weight and health issues that can adversely impact their overall health.

Overeating also affects your well-being. Under stress, some people actually turn to food for emotional comfort to dull their pain from a myriad of problems – from unhappy divorce, stress experience in the workplace to stress from school and relationship problems. These people find that eating can alleviate some of the pain experienced. And they are right. Eating releases beta-endorphin, a natural opiate produced by our pituitary gland that can reduce stress and pain. For some people, this becomes a vicious cycle – the more they eat, the better they feel as a result of the beta-endorphin, and that causes them to eat even more. This can lead to excessive eating or overeating, which can cause weight issues and is detrimental to our overall health.

Now that you understand the effects that eating has on our well-being, try to be more aware of the types of food that you take and how your body is reacting to food. Keep a log of the food that you eat for each meal this week. Consult a nutritionist or do some research online to see if these foods contain empty calories. Adjust your diet if you are eating too many empty calories. When you have a craving for food, ask yourself honestly if it is due to hunger, which is a normal biological need, or if it is due to other motivations, like the ones mentioned in this article. In the latter case, it is better to seek early professional advice from your doctor.

By Missy Roberts

How to lose weight fast and safely when (literally) everything around you encourages against it. Sounds like a pretty tough nut to crack doesn’t it? Well that is simply because you are letting your imagination get the better of you! Think about it for a second, how much time did it take for you to go from a lean 140 pounds to a not-so-lean 300; must have taken months, maybe even years to get to that point right? There is an old adage which goes – keep a frog in a pot of water and start to boil it very slowly, the frog will boil to death rather than jump out; I think you get the point.

All metaphors aside, let’s get to the point, how to lose weight fast and easily. Here is a little secret that I doubt any of the experts out there will be willing to share with you: while Tobey Maguire can wake up one fine morning with a ripped six pack physique, I am really sorry but you can’t! Michael Dasinger, MD to NBC’s The Biggest Loser says that “the truth is someone could drop as much as 20 pounds in a week if they follow an ambitious eating and exercise program.” He also admits that not everyone is ready to make the kind of commitment needed to lose weight like that but can still accomplish a lot with a little motivation and help. I am sure you must be beginning to get the picture now; if not here it is in bullet points:

a.	Big results require big effort: The faster you want to lose weight the more you must be willing to put in. The best way to lose weight fast and safely is to set realistic targets for yourself depending on how much effort you can put in, don’t get carried away by the infomercials.

b.	Set up a weight loss plan: The regular recommendation of low starch, sugar and animal fats applies. Your diet should mostly consist of fruits, vegetables, fish, skimmed milk/dairy products, lean (meaning without saturated fat) meats etc. You can also consult a physician for setting up a diet program for you.

c.	Motivate yourself: You must motivate yourself everyday for the same reason you must bathe everyday; it just doesn’t last! Make it a point to motivate yourself before you set out to accomplish that day’s target. It helps, big time!

d. Seek professional help: This can cost you a bit I am sure the results you will get will justify it. Make sure to get “recommended help” and not just any help.

You now know how to lose weight fast and safely, get to work, step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself! Simply the confidence you will get from having accomplished something big will justify all the effort and investment you are about to commit.

Obesity is rapidly becoming one of the greatest health challenges of the 21st century. No disease is more common and causes more unnecessary illness or early death than obesity. Furthermore there is no other single problem that so reduces the quality of life or increases the demand for healthcare services

The problem is worldwide. In the United States, more than two of every three adults are overweight and about one in three is obese This means that approximately 60 million people have the disease of obesity in the United States alone. More than one in five Australian adults, an estimated 2.6 million of a population of 20 million, are obese. For both countries, the incidence of obesity has doubled since 1980. Alarmingly, obesity starts in childhood and already 7% of our teenagers are obese.

Around the world, all countries have a growing problem. There are now an estimated 300 million people around the world who are suffering from obesity and its consequences. In both developed and developing nations, a similar pattern is occurring. In Russia, 54% of adults are overweight. In Brazil, the figure is 36%, and in Malaysia, 27%. Even China has a developing problem. A recent survey of adults in urban Shanghai reported that 29.5% were overweight and 4.3% were obese.

After millions of years of evolution we carry a genetic structure designed to enable us to survive the life of the hunter-gatherer, but our health and our lives are now threatened by a lifestyle characterized by ready access to copious amounts of attractive food and very little need for physical activity. Foods high in fat, carbohydrates and, in particular, simple sugars, are booming. The US Department of Agriculture reports that the US per capita intake of sugar was 152.4 lb (69 kg) in 2000. This is equal to nearly half a pound (230 g) of sugar per person each day. Most people will claim that they are not eating that much sugar. However, sugar is now a part of so many foods that we don’t even realize that we are eating it. Sugar has infiltrated out diet to a frightening extent. One hundred years ago, the sugar intake per capita was only 0.5lb (230 g). Is it any wonder that we have a [http://www.trueresults.com]problem with obesity?

And we don’t even need to get out of the chair to order the food to be delivered or to change the channels on the television. Activity has become optional. The combination of increased intake of energy and reduced energy expenditure inevitably leads to progressive weight increase.

Are you working longer hours than you want? Do you feel your work/personal life stresses are stunting your natural growth and sapping your emotional energy? Compare your growth with that of a plant you see growing and blossoming naturally to its full maturity. If you’re a gardener you will know sometimes that plant needs pruning and re-shaping to enjoy new vigorous growth.

If you feel a desire to enjoy new vigorous personal growth, there are some practical, enjoyable steps you can take to ‘prune and re-shape’ your lifestyle. Whatever your situation, there are always adjustments you can make to ensure you are in charge of creating the best life for you.

To achieve your natural life potential, you were born with a unique array of talents, abilities and skills, to be used and developed to the full. You also have passionate interests, which are the natural resource for developing those unique capabilities. Add to this the fact that we are social beings. You grow best when you connect with positive, like-minded people who share similar interests and passions.

If you get all of this through your work you are extremely fortunate. If however you get personal growth only through your work, you are living a narrow life in which only part of your potential is being developed. You are missing out on many of the other riches of life that you were destined to obtain. It may be you won’t fully appreciate this point until you are facing the lack of, or reduction in, your job and wonder what is left for you in life. I speak from personal experience and I also know that it is never too late.

“I enjoy respect, dignity, status and recognition – I wish I could get the same from my job”. You may be one of many who don’t enjoy your job. Perhaps you made a bad choice but also perhaps you had to take on your present type of work, simply to pay the bills. If so, you will have found the need to have strong interests away from work. You will already appreciate how much those non-work interests have enriched your lifestyle.

Passionate interests away from work are as important to your life growth as work. They can be physical, intellectual, artistic, musical, social, manual, or spiritual. When you lose yourself in an interest you love, you find yourself. Virtually any interest will invigorate your growth so long as it engages your senses of creative thinking and goal achievement.

The work ethic used to be that work was everything and anything else was nothing. One of the good things about the current stressful times is we are learning a rich life is much more than striving for material wealth.

The problem is that work pressures are forcing excessive priority on to work-related interests and many other passionate interests and related talents are increasingly being pushed aside. Life-changing events still hit us however and suddenly we find we are in our 50′s and starting to see life differently. If you don’t make the effort to stop and check the direction you are going, your tree of life will remain stunted.

Whatever your present situation, there is still plenty of vigorous personal growth to be achieved. Enjoy doing a self-audit on

* your range of natural skills, talents and abilities – especially those you have used little in recent years.

* your passionate interests, especially ones you have let slide because of other priorities

* positive people you love connecting with because you share similar interests and passions

* re-assessing your priorities on where you allocate your emotional energies. Consider giving more attention to your passions and potential – through work, home and play. You will have to do so one day so good to start doing so now.

You now have some valuable material towards developing a new life plan, that creatively expresses the real you in ways that enable your natural potential to blossom.

I have so many things I need to improve, where do I start?

That’s a great question and the answer lies within you. However, I would say a good starting place is to do a self assessment. How do you do that? Easy. Ask yourself two questions and spend some time answering them. The questions are:

What are the really good things about me?

What things about me would I like to change?

The really good things

Why start with the really good things? Because many people who are on a self improvement path are wanting to improve because they believe they are flawed, not good enough, don’t measure up and they can’t think of anything good about themselves. Dwelling on the negative brings in more negative. Some people are taught that to admit something good about themselves is prideful and that it’s not o.k.; therefore, they have never done an assessment of their good qualities. Some are emotionally battered and simply can’t think of any good quality they may have.

A self assessment can be compared to doing a store inventory – you don’t know what to buy unless you know what you already have on the shelf. We need to find the “good stuff” as well as the stuff that’s outdated and no longer can be sold. In self assessment, we need to find the good qualities to balance out those that need to be developed or improved. Balance is the key here.
So where do you start? Get a piece of paper, your computer or whatever it is you work with easily. Decide how many good things about you that you wish to find (I recommend either 50 or 100 – preferably 100). If you have to sit and stare at the page or the computer screen for a long period of time, then go with the obvious: e.g.,

I have a great smile (everyone has a great smile – they just need to smile more often)

I am honest

I am a hard worker

I like childrenI like animals

Some of those may not be true of you, but you write the things that are true. Then go to the deeper things. e.g.

I have a compassionate heart and I am willing to help others who need me

I have a deep connection with the Divine

I am able to think for myself even though others around me may not agree with my views

Now keep going.

What about those things that I want to improve?

My best advice is to be gentle with yourself. Be very, very gentle. Make a short list no more than two or three items of what you want to improve and start with something manageable. If you need to lose 100 pounds, for instance, start with the goal of losing 10. That can be accomplished. Looking at a 100 pound weight loss is formidable and unless you can get on The Biggest Loser it seems impossible. But 10 pounds? You can do that and then reset you goal to another 10 pounds and then another.

Some years ago I was interested in doing more public speaking. I was then working as a hypnotherapist, and one day a client forgot to take the audio tape I had made for her of our session. I listened to it just to hear how I sounded and see if the sound levels were adequate. I was surprised to discover hat I had a pronounced and annoying twang in my voice that I developed when living in West Texas. It showed up only in specific words. I wrote those words down and every day practiced saying them without the twang. I was like a modern day Eliza Doolittle only instead of saying “The rain in Spain falls mainly in the plain,” I said my twangy words correctly until the twang was gone. A small challenge but one I conquered and am pleased about. I can listen to a recording of mine now without cringing and I can speak in public without twanging.

If you have a seriously inhibiting problem such as uncontrollable anger, an addiction, or extremely low self esteem you may need help in finding solutions. It’s o.k. to ask for help. Go for it.

So now you have made your long list of good things about yourself and your short list of what you need to change or improve. Right? You are aware of the needed change?

My best advice is: now get busy doing something for some one else that makes you happy and helps them. Find new avenues of joy and contentment for yourself. Monitor your thoughts so you eliminate negative thinking as much as you can and dwell on those things that are beautiful, good, inspiring, fun and funny. Look for the good in every situation and in every person that you meet.

Soon, and very soon indeed, you will find that the thing you wanted to change is no longer an issue.

Try it. You might like it.
