Chitoka Webb grew up in poverty, living in the projects in Nashville but she had a dream of owning her own business. Despite the obstacles, she became a successful entrepreneur who owns and operates two barbershops and two health care agencies for the mentally challenged. She seems to personify the saying, “What doesn’t kill me only makes me stronger.” While it is not unusual for a woman to become a successful business woman, what IS unusual is way she met the obstacles along her journey to success and the spirit that compelled her to overcome them and to continue to fight for her dream. Her story is about attitude, determination, humor and “Something” within her that made all the difference.

About Chitoka

Chitoka Webb is a successful business owner, motivational speaker and author who lives in Hendersonville, TN. Raised by her single mother, Webb grew up in the Preston Taylor housing projects, landed her first job in a grocery store at only 13 years old. When a senior in High School, she was told by school authorities she couldn’t graduate with her class just a week before the ceremony because she was one point short in her chemistry class. Now, in her mid-30s, Webb owns several businesses—that she founded. Some of Webb’s successes include being appointed by the governor of Tennessee as a board of trustee to a state appointed board, a mentor for the Nashville Juvenile Justice Center, president of the Nashville Chamber of Commerce Business Council and being elected to the prestigious Entrepreneurs Organization. Webb currently volunteers as an auditor for the Nashville United Way and serves as a board member for the Middle Tennessee YMCA.

Unfortunately, political leaders, diplomats, special envoys, and retired generals are often appointed to a job for which they are not trained nor have sufficient aptitude. Elusive Peace shows why we can no longer afford to allow political, diplomatic, and military leaders to mediate peace accords. They simply don’t know what they are doing. After a successful 22 year trial career, Doug Noll decided that litigation was a wasteful way to resolve conflicts. He went back to school to earn his Masters Degree in Peacemaking and Conflict Studies and has dedicated his life to peacemaking. Doug is a nationally recognized mediator, trainer, and speaker who hosts a weekly radio show dedicated to giving a voice to international peacemaking. He is an author of the books Elusive Peace: How Modern Diplomatic Strategies Could Better Resolve World Conflicts; Sex, Politics & Religion at the Office: The New Competitive Advantage; and Peacemaking: Practicing at the Intersection of Law and Human Conflict. What do parents do and how do they and their children cope – even thrive – over the summer when the children are home from school? Our guest, Eric Putnam, President of Independent Behavioral Coaching (IBC), recognizes the need for parent support and guidance to help them help their children. IBC believes that the key component to supporting children is through supporting and strengthening the relationships between child and adult to better allow the adult to coach the child in ways that can best set them up for success. Growing research is showing that building strong secure relationships can help with over 80% of behavior problems and with the 20% of children that need more. Building relationships can minimize the need for additional support services like counseling and medication. Eric will discuss how to create opportunities for relationship development between parents and children that will minimize problems that can occur over the long, hot summer.

Eric Putnam, MA, LAC, received his M.A. in Applied Sociology from Northern Arizona University in 1994 and a M.A. in Professional Counseling from Ottawa University in 2004. He was the Clinical Director of CPS Crisis Stabilization Services at TERROS, INC for almost five years working with highly abused and neglected children exhibiting severely destructive behaviors. Eric created Independence Behavioral Coaching to fill the needs of a growing number of families and teachers for positive support services provided directly in the home and/or at school directly where difficult behaviors are occurring. Behavioral coaching focuses on learning, performance efficiency and overall growth of the child and family. The behavioral coach gathers information about the child such as temperament, potential barriers within the environment and on specific targeted behaviors that are causing the child to struggle at home, in the school and/or in certain social situations.
