Healthy Living

By Gangadharan Variyar -

Am able to recollect a number of quotes and proverbs about health. The most oft quoted is “Health is Wealth.”

Absolute truth! Taking care of your health is as or even more important than taking care of your wealth.

It is a fact that preferences and habits differ among individuals and the factors that contribute to your preferences and habits are the society you live in, your upbringing, the geography of your domicile etc. The most deciding factor is your mental make-up, which is unique to each individual. An individual lives according to his/her own preferences and form habits. Healthy living can be achieved without compromising any of your preferences or habits. The trick would be to choose the best of those preferences and habits, add a good dose of established practices and lead a lifestyle that is ideal and healthy.

Sentience is what separates humans from other forms of life on earth. By saying that, the allusion is, being human we should use that awareness to achieve the best in our life. Am fully aware that Utopia is an impossibility, the reason for elaborating on the personal preferences and mental make up in the earlier paragraph. The emphasis is on healthy living, the reason and the means to it.

While surfing internet, I came across the definition of health in Wikipedia. It stated that quote: At the creation of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948, Health was defined as being a “state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. unquote. That means health is not just absence of physical ill health but a complete state of well-being. We are aware that mental and social well-being is dependent on external factors and may not be fully in our control. Where as, physical health (barring hereditary, degenerative or malignant maladies) is.

Healthy living does not involve Herculean effort but just basic attentiveness and precautions. Food habits, hygiene, physical exercise and rest, if properly taken care of, will go a long way in maintaining physical health and a comfortable living. I have observed that hygiene is a frequent lapse that lead to a number of maladies. Washing your hands before eating, physical cleanliness, clean clothes etc. will help in keeping many infectious diseases away. Diet, though mostly dependent on your upbringing and social background, can be adjusted to provide optimum nourishment without compromising taste and preferences. Taste can be acquired. I personally relish bitter gourd preparations, which is an acquired taste.

Physical activity is another deficiency in our sedentary life styles. If not a constitutional morning walk, we can find opportunities in our daily life to exercise. Dusting your apartment will provide some physical exercise and keep the place clean. Walking up the stairs instead of using the elevator will save electricity and reduce your carbon footprint (a pun! but a fact)

The last but not the least, rest. A must do for recharging our batteries. It goes without saying that sleep is the best form of rest and if possible, with least help from sleep inducing substances. A fully loaded slumber will not provide the rest your body needs. It does not help you recharge your mental batteries. An early dinner, a good walk and a glass of hot milk would do the trick for people with minor sleeping problems. This may not be a cure for insomnia but can be of help to some extent.

Mental and social well-being is also important, but as I stated earlier, they are mostly dependent on external factors. Avoiding aggression, for example – road rage, can contribute to your mental as well as society’s well-being. We also have some proven methods to better mental health. Practicing meditation, prayer, yoga etc. can really help. Religions were founded or have evolved for the social and mental well-being of the human kind.

A Balanced Diet: What Is It and How to Achieve It?

By Regina Cheah -

Having a balanced diet simply means eating the right type of food in the right amounts at the recommended levels in order for your body to take in the nutrients it needs for health. It is important to have one as it ensures the prevention of obesity, diabetes, some types of cancer and diseases.

According to the ‘Australian guide to healthy eating’, the number of daily servings required from each food group to meet your body’s daily nutrient needs can be roughly broken down into the following:

Carbohydrates: 6 – 9

Protein: 1 – 2

Fats: 1 Dairy: 2 – 3

Fruit: 2

Vegetables: 5

Next thing you would need to know is what constitutes 1 serving of a food group.

Carbohydrates:

• 1 slice of bread

• 1 cup of Rice or pasta or noodles

• ¾ cup of ready to eat cereal

• 1 medium bread roll

Protein:

• 70 – 90 grams of cooked lean meat/fish/poultry

• 2 small eggs or 1 large egg

• ½ cup peanuts/almonds

• 2 small lamb chops

Fat:

• 1 tsp of vegetable oil/butter/peanut butter

• 5 grams of fat in food such as cakes and pastries

Dairy

• 1 cup of yogurt/milk

• ½ cup of ice cream

• 1 slice of cheese

Fruit

• ½ cup of freshly squeezed juice

• 1 apple/orange/banana

• ½ cup of chopped fresh fruit

• ¼ cup of raisins or dried fruit.

Vegetables

• Half a cup of cooked vegetables

• One whole tomato

• 10 baby carrots

• 1 cup of salad vegetables

Now, a major problem in trying to follow this guide to ensure that your body has all the nutrients it needs to be healthy, is that a person would have to consume (for example), a minimum of 2 slices of bread, 4 cups of rice, 70 grams of cooked meat cooked in some vegetable oil, 2 cups of yogurt, 2 apples, 30 baby carrots and 4 cups of cooked vegetables per day. Though this may be easily achievable by some, for many others, especially those who live extremely busy lives or are trying to reduce their portion size and calories to lose weight , it is not. Thus, I have outlined a few recommendations and tips on how to achieve a balanced healthy diet.

• Try choosing high-nutrient density foods such as a sandwich that is packed with lean meat and vegetables. This will provide a higher amount of vitamins and minerals without too much calories

• Avoid foods that are high in calories but low in nutrients. These are mainly foods like candy, soft drinks and cake.

• Always serve a salad with your main meal for lunch and dinner. This will ensure you will increase your intake of vegetables.

• Swap rice/pasta/noodles for bread, 1 slice of bread is already 1 serving of carbohydrates!

• A cup of freshly squeezed juice in the morning covers your recommended daily intake of fruit

• If you have a busy lifestyle or, you’re trying to lose weight and still finding it hard to meet the daily requirements, it is also a good idea to try and take supplements. Supplements can ensure that your body will receive all the nutrients it needs if you’re unable to consume enough food for your body to extract the required vitamins and nutrients to reach optimum health.

However, please keep in mind that it is important not to replace your real fruits and vegetables with the supplements (if you choose to take them). Nothing can ever replace a healthy diet!

Good luck!

It is never too late or too hard to live a healthy lifestyle. Make the commitment and achieve that healthier lifestyle you have always wanted. Your body, mind and soul will thank you for it!

Healthy Living Tips For Men

By John R Bradstreet -

With all the advances medicine has made in recent years it has become much more efficient at treating many health problems that we have. We all know however it is best to avoid health problems all together. By following a few simple healthy living tips you may be able to do this.

MAKE REGULAR DOCTOR VISITS

Men often ignore abnormal health symptoms and avoid going to doctors. This may be part of the reason why women tend to outlive us. Make sure that you have a yearly checkup. Make the appointment and keep it. There are some that need a little push so get a family member involved that will make sure you go to your doctor. It is in your best interest as well as theirs.

EAT A HEALTHY DIET

Avoid eating processed and fast foods. These are the types of foods that are full of sugar, unhealthy fats and salt. Instead include fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean cuts of meat into your diet. Try to eat two meals of fish per week. A good tip when grocery shopping is to concentrate on items that are on the perimeter of the store. This is the area where you will find fresh foods. The aisles, for the most part, is where the unhealthier foods are.

EXERCISE ON A REGULAR BASIS

The leading cause of death today is heart disease and regular exercise is known to be the best way that you can prevent it. Try to exercise at least 30 minutes each day. Choose something that you enjoy doing and it will be easier to stick with your program for the long term. Swimming, walking, softball or other forms of aerobic exercise will give you the most benefit.

KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR WAISTLINE

One way that you can determine if your health is at risk is by your waistline. If your waist is larger than 40 inches this may be a reason for concern. Studies have shown that men with larger waistlines are more susceptible to heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and other health issues.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING YOUR VITAMINS

You can do this in two ways. Take a multivitamin each day and make sure your diet includes vitamin rich foods. Eating foods that are high in fiber will help you accomplish this. One side note here, some commonly prescribed drugs have the effect of depleting our bodies of needed nutrients and vitamins so if you are taking anything for a condition you have it would be a good idea to speak to your doctor about this on your next visit.

STAY AWAY FROM THE COMMON HEALTH SINS

While some of this may be obvious it is still worth mentioning. Don’t smoke. This is one of the leading health risks that we face today. Even second hand smoke can have negative affects on your health and the health of people around you. It is a major contributor to lung cancer, COPD, emphysema and other diseases.

If you drink alcohol make sure that you do it in moderation. While some alcohol consumption has been reported to reduce the risk of heart disease doctors recommend that you do it in more healthy ways such as exercise. Alcoholism has negatively affected many people along with their families.

Stay away from drugs such as cocaine and anabolic steroids. Cocaine has been shown to increase the risk of heart attacks and stroke. It has become all too common for men who are trying to increase body mass to resort to steroids. Unfortunately there is a high price in term of health that is often paid.

By following these simple guidelines you can greatly increase the probability of living a much healthier and productive life. You will not only feel better but look better as well.

10 Simple Tips For Healthy Living

By John R Bradstreet -

With all the emphasis on maintaining a healthy lifestyle sometimes we overlook some of the basic things that help us accomplish this. We are going to look at some of these today. Many may seem to be a matter of common sense, but if you follow these you will be on your way to healthy living.

1. Drink plenty of water. It is suggested that we consume 8-10 glasses per day. This includes water that we get from foods and other drinks that we have. A good tip is to drink a glass before eating. Sometimes we are not actually hungry but are dehydrated.

2. We all know that eating fresh fruits daily is advised. But did you know that it is best to eat them in between meals or before meals. If you eat them directly after a meal your body will store it away as unused energy.

3. You should eat a protein with each of your meals. Some excellent sources of protein would include fish, beans, meat, protein bars and shakes. Your body needs these proteins so ensure that you are getting enough of them.

4. There are some foods that are better avoided. These would include potatoes, white bread, instant oatmeal and french fries. The reason is that these are foods that that body breaks down quickly into sugar.

5. Start a regular exercise program. If you are not in the habit of exercising start out slow and work your way up to something that is more strenuous. Choose something that you enjoy doing. If you enjoy the type of exercise your chances of continuing it over the long term increases. Over time you should work your way up to 3 to 5 times a week for 30 minutes or more. You will be surprised at the extra energy it will give you and the improvement in your mood. Try to incorporate some weight training in your schedule. This is an excellent way to naturally increase your metabolism.

6. Include raw vegetables into your daily diet. Nutritionists tell us that the darker the vegetable is the richer it is in nutrients. Concentrate on the ones that are dark green, dark purple and dark orange. This will give you the most benefits.

7. You should eat smaller meals with snacks in between. Eating every two to three hours is optimal. This will help you to naturally increase your metabolism and that is essential to healthy weight control. Peanut butter on a cracker is a good example of snacks you should include. If you wait until you actually feel hungry it may be too late. This causes your body to go into a fasting state.

8. Include fatty acids into the diet. Ground up flax seed is a good source to have with foods or cereals. It also gives you fiber.

9. Eat foods that are high in fiber. These foods will help you control cholesterol levels as well as giving you the feeling of feeling fuller. Some examples of these types of foods would be whole grains, fibrous vegetables and legumes. You may also want to look at supplementation as there are some good ones out there. You would want to speak to your doctor before beginning any supplementation program.

10. Raw nuts and seeds are a good source of essential fatty acids. You should limit the. amount to about a handful. These fatty acids not only help us burn fat but also
assure that we have healthy hair, skin and nails.

These are some very simple things that can be done to improve your overall health. You will feel and look a lot better by knowing the basic ways to change or improve your lifestyle.

Healthy Living – 3 Dangerous Mistakes You Are Making Keeping You From a Healthy Life

puzzle

By Angela Garrison -

You are standing in your own way of living the healthful life you dream of. Here is what is stopping you and how to avoid these dangerous mistakes even doctors make!

Mistake #1:

You dedicate your life to taking care of others

You take care of your children, spouse, parents, friends, even your pets. You are also your family’s own travel agent, tax professional, financial advisor, shopper, housekeeper, chef, teacher, therapist, chauffeur, etc…. Now I know this makes you feel needed and even loved but you are so busy you tend not to remember to take care of yourself. This is a very dangerous pattern. After all, at the end of the day how can you take care of everyone and everything if you don’t feel good and your health is deteriorating?

You need to slow down and take care of your needs first. This was the hardest thing for me because I had never done that before.

It felt so selfish and really weird. But, what happened the day I decided to take care of myself first helped me change my life forever. It was so much easier than I thought. I found some simple strategies and I have never felt happier, and healthier. I have more patience and focus than I’ve ever had (and with 2 young kids this is a necessity!) and I have even more energy to do all I was doing before. (I just enjoy it more now)

Mistake #2:

You think it’s too late

You haven’t taken care of yourself for years! You figure the damage has been done and you can’t change it now.

Have you ever tried to convince yourself to not care about what may be going on inside your body? After all, you can’t see what’s going on inside, and everything seems fine for now…But then comes a trip to the doctor’s office and you stay up late the night before worrying about what they might find.

Why do we think this way? It really is never too late.

The body has the remarkable ability to heal itself quickly and effortlessly given the right nutrients. I know this first hand as I was diagnosed with an auto immune disease a few years ago, and by changing my diet to include rich natural fruits from all over the world I no longer have to take prescriptions everyday to control my disease.

Mistake #3:

Blaming Your genetics for your health

Did you know by the time you reach 50, your lifestyle, including your diet, determines 80% of how you age!! The remaining 20% is inherited genetics.

You have the power to age faster or slower depending on your lifestyle choices. The choices you make everyday determine your health and the path of the future.

These are 3 very dangerous mistakes that even doctors are making with their health, I have 3 dangerous mistakes yet to reveal to you that are the biggest mistakes of all. Learn about them and what to do to avoid them by clicking on the link below.

Summer Health and Wellness Tips

Senior couple on cycle rideBy Amber Keinath -

Today is the official beginning of the summer season. School is out and kids are back at home ready to be entertained.

With this new onset of the summer season comes many health concerns that you should be aware of before you plan your summer activities. The heat and sun can lead to many serious illnesses and accidents. Make sure you start your summer off right by knowing how to keep you and your family happy and healthy during this fun time of year!

I have put together a list of the top 7 things you should know for having healthy summer habits.

1. Sunscreen is important. This is not new information. However, make sure you choose sunscreen that does not have cancer causing ingredients in it. Recent studies warn against the ingredients PABA, benzophenone-3, homosalate, octyl-methoxycinnamate (OMC) and 4-methyl-benzylidene camphor (4- MBC) due to the possible link to skin cancer.

2. Summer is a great time to get the necessary amounts of Vitamin D. While you can get small amounts in your diet, the best way to reach your needed Vitamin D levels is by sun exposure to the skin. Make sure the skin does not have sunscreen because it may interfere with the absorption of Vitamin D. 15-30 minutes is adequate unprotected exposure for Vitamin D. Be sure to practice safe sun habits. If you have any questions consult with your physician.

3. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. Summer is a time of plenty when it comes to fruits and vegetables availability. Farmers markets are up and running. There are so many options available during this time of year that you can get creative and have fun! Vegetables and fruits have many properties for protecting your health from cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and much more! By eating more vegetables and fruits you can give your body the vitamins and minerals it craves and protect your cells from the damage free radicals cause.

4. Avoid long periods of vigorous activity during the heat of the summer. Make sure you take frequent breaks and drink lots of water to keep hydrated. Summer can be a dangerous time for long periods of activity outside in the sun and heat. Keep your family protected by offering shade, frequent breaks, and lots of fluids. Make sure you drink plenty of water. Summer is hot and in a lot of places very humid. These factors can lead to dehydration very quickly. Remember to drink plenty of liquids and water is by far the best option for prevention dehydration, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke.

5. Increase your social and activity calendar! Summer is an awesome time for getting together with friends which has shown to increase your happiness and fulfillment in life. It also offers a great time for increasing your activity level with offering many options for activities that get you moving from swimming to tennis to golf. What do you enjoy? What makes you happy in life? Studies have shown that people who are happy and active life longer, healthier, and happier lives. What can you do this summer to increase your health?

Healthy Living – Running For Exercise

marathonBy Alex Ryan

A lot of people get into running mostly for the reason of physical well-being and keep their bodies in good shape. However, some may find that running is also an excellent means to meditate and develop good spiritual routines.

It is also a great way to develop your confidence and as you become better at it that you might even think about running with others by being a part of certain groups or local running clubs. Many runners dismiss this thought at the start because they had no desires of taking their running to a competitive level but soon end up participating in various races across the country.

Running can do a lot more than offer you a sense of physical well-being. It is a source of psychological benefits as you truly appreciate of a whole running training system and take it further as a key to a good life style and fitness that will lasts a lifetime.

If you are getting into running for fitness reasons, it would be best to set certain goals by visualizing what it is exactly that you need to accomplish. Don’t aim low but rather set something high such as improving your lap time by a certain percentage, getting rid of a couple of weights and ultimately participating in competitive races.

Aside from the High goals that are likely to be long term, it is also just as important to set short term goals to look forward to so you can appreciate your progress in various steps. This will keep you motivated and can prove extremely useful in reaching the high goals you’ve set ahead.

After everything is set including your goals and the timeframe you can then initiate your program and start training. By thinking about all these things thoroughly, you can increase your chances of succeeding significantly.

Perhaps the hardest part is that you will be responsible for coming up with a system to motivate and keeping yourself in check as pursue your goals to a better well-being.

Keep all of these things in mind and they shall go a long way in enhancing your performance on your runs as well your overall health.

My knowledge extends beyond this subject. I’ve also written articles about ID holders. Find those articles at http://idholders.org.

Yoga and Healthy Living – Five Yogic Secrets to Healthy Living

yogaBy Ntathu AllenAre you interested in looking after your health? Do you read healthy living magazines and dream of living the sort of life where you always eat well, have enough sleep, and work-out three times a week? But in reality, you drive everywhere, have fast-food takeaways and burn the candle at both ends?

Like most people you probably strive to lead a healthy balanced lifestyle. You aspire to prepare freshly cooked meals, make time for friends and family and have a lean-toned body.

Given the fast pace of modern day living, it can be very difficult to fit everything in. It takes time to go to the gym, time to go shopping and buy fresh fruit and vegetables and even longer to cook a healthy meal for your family.

In view of this, what can you do to carry out your good intentions? What can you do to live a healthier lifestyle? Is it possible to be healthy and still fit in all your every day activities.

Yoga may well be the secret ingredient in your quest to live a healthier lifestyle. The teachings’ and practice of yoga are based on the five following points; put together these points help you to live a healthier more balanced lifestyle.

Five Yogic Secrets to Healthier Living

1. Yoga Exercises. Yoga exercises or Asanas, help to strengthen and tone the physical body. Regular yoga practice promotes flexibility in the joints and stimulates circulation. If you can fit 10 – 20 minutes of gentle yoga stretches into your daily schedule you will feel healthier and stronger.

2. Yoga Breathing Exercises. Yoga breathing exercises help to cleanse, strengthen and purify your mind and body. There is a close link between your state of mind and the way you breathe. Correct breathing forms an essential part of yoga and meditation and helps to bring mental and emotional balance to your body and mind. Again, a few minutes of yoga breathing exercises practiced throughout your day will help you to feel calmer and more in control of the situations in your life.

Invest in Yourself With These Healthy Living Practices

happyBy Dr. Stacy Irvine, D.C. and Steph A MillerAre you thriving or surviving? Are you living a life you love or do you feel exhausted most of the time, accompanied with an overwhelming sense that there’s just not enough time in the day?

Financial gurus tell us to, “pay yourself first” and to immediately place 10% of our income into an account for our future. They say when we invest money into a long-term plan and consistently add to it, the future dividends grow at an exponential rate.

This same premise holds true with regards to our health and well-being. When we invest small increments of time and energy over a long period of time into self-care, the returns are also exponential for health and vitality.

When investing in your health, it helps to know exactly what you need to do. The following is a list of healthy living practices that will help you increase your energy, health and happiness:

1. Nutrition. Food affects us on so many levels: body composition, mood, energy and immune response. On the cellular level, it’s true “you are what you eat”. The foods and their nutrients are the raw materials to repair and rebuild our cells. The human body reproduces over 300 billion new cells on a daily basis. That’s a lot of opportunity to replace old weak cells with stronger, more resilient ones! With the correct type and quality of nutrients, you can build a stronger and healthier body in no time.

2. Exercise. The body is made to move. In fact, without physical activity, some physiological processes fail to work at all, and others work less than optimally. For instance, the pumping action of the lymphatic system, which facilitates cellular nutrition and waste removal, is improved with physical movement.

There are 4 types of exercise that add a dimension to health and fitness:

a. Aerobic activity. This is any activity in which you sustain an elevated heart-rate and respiration for an extended period of time, typically over 20 minutes. The benefits of a cardiovascular workout include healthier heart and lungs, improved circulation, digestion, mood, energy, increased immune response and caloric burn.

b. Resistance training. Also known as strength or weight-training, many women now understand that lifting weights affects them differently than it does men. For women, their bodies will build more muscle but, unless they decide on a professional career in body building, will never achieve the mass men do. Even small changes in body composition will enhance daily metabolism, burning calories at a faster rate. `Pumping iron’ increases range of motion, muscle tone, maintains joint stability and increases muscle strength, bones, tendons and ligaments.

c. Flexibility or stretching. As one of the most under-rated forms of exercise, stretching is your best friend, especially as we age. The benefits of increasing our flexibility include alleviating stress and muscle tension; facilitates muscle recovery as well as being a conducive cool-down that maintains and increases range of motion and mobility; improves posture and reduces pain; and enhances circulation and oxygen delivery to muscles.

d. Mind-Body. Recently, this type of activity has been achieving popularity in the West. Mind-body exercises are those which require us to place our awareness in our body, posture, breathing and movements. Some examples include active forms like Tai-chi, certain types of yoga and Pilates; while restorative forms include yoga and meditation. When practicing mind-body exercises, expect to experience stress-reduction, improved circulation and energy flow, increased mindfulness and improvement in the benefits and performance in the other forms of exercise listed above.

3. Stress-Reduction Techniques. In today’s world, it is nearly impossible to avoid all stress. Actually, some levels of stress are beneficial! However, if stress is not managed properly, it can accumulate in our body and affect us on a cellular level. Eventually, if the stress is not released, it manifests in the form of physical ailments.

Besides nutrition and exercise, here are several suggestions to release your stress:

a. Eliminate unnecessary tasks, responsibilities and obligations. Learn to say no and know your limits. Much of what we do on a daily basis is unimportant to us and others.

b. Journaling. A great way to process feelings is through writing. Many people find it relieving to get their thoughts and feelings on paper and out of their heads and hearts.

c. Money-management. Financial stress is typically the number one source of tension for most of us. Taking control of our finances and tying up loose ends in money matters will help free up a lot of wasted energy.

Investing in your health is a life-long practice. When you first embark on this journey, it may be a little rough. But when you start small and focus more on consistency, these healthy living practices outlined above become second nature.

If you’d like to make it easier for yourself, enlist the assistance of a qualified professional health practitioner to help you along the way. One way to do this is to join group events, like the health and fitness retreat I will be attending in April, 2010. “Retreat to Healthy Living in Barbados” is a week-long event for women looking to develop and enhance healthy living practices.

Dr. Stacy Irvine is a founder and co-owner of Totum Life Science, a boutique fitness and health care center in Toronto. Through her work as a chiropractor and strength and conditioning specialist, Dr. Irvine’s clientele ranges from beginners, just starting out on an exercise program, to elite and professional athletes, looking for advanced rehabilitation and training program strategies.

Healthy Living is Yours, Stop Ignoring it

happyman2By Chad E. Briggs -
Healthy living is your call to action! So what are you doing about your health today? As you go through the process of everyday life. As if life could always be simple, and no it’s not. How complex and crazy life gets, you can still take control of your basic health. You do have the option of dying well one day, millions do.

It’s funny, our grandparents never gave much thought to healthy living. They just did it for the most part. They got up, lived their lives, raised families, formed enduring friendships and went on with the world. They died and a lot of people attended their funerals because they made a difference.

A wonderful, older friend of mine, who has since died, gave the best advice I can think of for healthy living: Get on with it! She lived an active, productive and fulfilling life. And is still missed by many.

Healthy living is first of all, attitude. It begins with a definite conscious commitment from you. Healthy living is for you, or not, begotten by the actions you take all the time.

Healthy living is about everything you do! I came across a quote recently on one of the social media sites that caught my attention, and has stayed with me. It went like this, excuse my poor paraphrasing: “The way to drive out a nail is with another nail. Make a habit by doing a habit.” Twenty one days in a row makes a habit. By then, your mind, body and cells know you mean business.

The old axiom of “action speaks louder than words.” Is more relevant than ever. I hear a lot of ‘pretty words’ out there, from all kinds of sources, in all different places. Charlie Brown’s teacher comes to mind.

Bottom line, healthy living is about your action, about you putting one foot in front of the other and going forward. Use your heart, it’s in charge, to know what’s right. Use your brain to think, before you shove that next ‘heart attack’ on a plate into your mouth!

Healthy living is giving thanks before you get out of bed every morning, and telling God how much you love. It doesn’t have to be long. Tell yourself it’s going to be a great day. I’ve had many morning, where I thought it was going to be anything but a great day, I did it anyway. It makes a difference and I can’t tell you how. Only you know.

Healthy living is doing simple, basic things before you even leave home in the morning. For instance, don’t wait until the very last minute to get up, eat a healthy breakfast, drink an extra glass of water, did you take time to poop, do some sit ups before you hop into the shower, tell people you love them.

When you start your day on the right side instead of upside down, things will start to work. Everything mentioned above is a habit. You don’t like your old habit, replace it with repetitive action of a new self-empowering habit and routine.

If you had fast food for lunch, then re-group, and have an apple in the afternoon. Go to the gym and have a healthy dinner. If you said a harsh word to someone, go back and apologize. If your frame of mind was crap all day, change it with your next thought.

Healthy living is trying not to get overwhelmed. I’m not asking you to add extra stuff to your list. It is matter of you thinking before doing. What is your choice of action?

You can have an apple or banana instead of a candy bar. Drink water versus soda. Go to the gym or stay home and slowly decay on the couch. Healthy living is about you taking control.
