What are the Causes of Noise Pollution?

The causes of noise pollution are varied but some of the most common things to blame for this are the following:

*Cars – The sound of traffic has become music to people’s ears, particularly those who live in urban areas. But this music is not the type that relaxes and soothes you, it is like those overly loud hard rock or metal music that can be damaging to your ears.

*Airplanes – People who live close to airports are affected with the noises that come from airplanes. They typically suffer from problems like chronic stress, high blood pressure, and heart ailments.

*Workplace – Construction sites and assembly lines are two common sources of noise. Other than that, office noise which consists anything from talking co-workers, drumming of fingers on the desk to the sound of computer typing and air conditioning noises, is also a culprit for noise pollution.

*Home – At home, pollution can be the television, sound system, talking individuals, and sound of other appliances.

What are the Negative Effects of Noise Pollution to our health?

Research reveals that noise does have adverse effects in our overall health and well being, the most common of which is chronic stress. Noise pollution can trigger the body’s response to stress and increase stress hormones to high levels.

This is why, noise can be associated with ailments such as heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, and musculoskeletal problems. Noise can also lower immunity to diseases by disrupting proper sleep cycles. Aside from your health, noise can also reduce a person’s productivity. It disrupts people’s reading ability and comprehension. Some even have memory impaired due to this problem.

How can we Reduce Noise Pollution?

Since it can have a negative impact in our bodies, it is necessary that we do something about it. Fortunately, there are certain things you can do to reduce noise. One of these is to limit the noise that enters your space. You can do this by having double-paned windows and weather stripping.

Installation of such equipment can reduce heating, cooling bills, and increase insulation in your home. You can further reduce home noise by turning off the television and opting for appliances that don’t emit much noise.

As for the workplace, changing your job may be the only solution if what you are currently doing poses grave danger on your health because of the noise pollution. Now for less serious problems like office noise, you can bring this to the attention of the employers who can implement policies regarding this matter. After all, less talk means more work done, which is what they want to achieve in the first place.

Noise pollution is not only irritating and maddening. It is also detrimental to a person’s overall health and wellbeing. This is why, it is important that you do something about it.

Handling Your Hormones

Oh the joys of being a Generation Jones woman. We’re finally seeing the light at the end of our PMSing, moody, crampy time of the month, the freedom of no longer having strings attached is palpable. Imagine the day after day joy of wearing white whenever we want and not having to carry along all the extra bits of gear that go with menstruation.  But nature isn’t done messing with us yet! What lies ahead is months and years of perimenopause which will play havoc with our hormones.

What happens when you enter perimenopause is your brain becomes less sensitive to estrogen. This triggers all those symptoms you’ve heard about, or may already be experiencing, hot flashes, fatigue, depression, loss of libido and for many women an amped up appetite. Estrogen affects your neurotransmitters that control your eating, it basically can turn your hunger on or off like a light switch. So it’s up to you to play a physical game with your brain to stay tune with your hormonal currents.

While going through perimenopause you need to keep your muscles are active and fit to keep your body high functioning. The release of endorphins travels to your brain giving you a sense of well being. This along with a high protein breakfast will stave off short term hunger pangs. Protein is harder to digest than carbohydrates so they stay with you longer. Eating an egg white and veggie scramble in the AM is best. A small piece of fruit will curb your carb desire. Eating sugar and caffeine will increase your hunger pang hormone and decrease your stop eating hormone.

The hunger switch needs to be managed every two and a half to three hours so a mid morning snack of protein and complex carbs are ideal. Try a string cheese and small apple.

After we eat our fat cells pump out a satisfaction hormone called leptin. Leptin causes the brain to produce less dopamine. Dopamine is released with the first bite of food. Dopamine encourages eating while leptin curbs the food demons. Two to three hours after a meal the leptin depletes

Artificial sweeteners switch on appetite just like sugar.

When you are sleepy you are more vulnerable to eating more and making less healthy food choices.

Midafternoon is a danger zone for peri women as cortisol a stress hormone, levels drop along with testosterone levels, which makes us moody and tired. Scientists think this is the major reason for weight gain in this stage of life. Tired cranky increases want for sweets and comfort foods.  Our mid forties also cause a change in our brains response to glucose giving us energy surges and drops. Also increases urges for sweets and carbs.

Eat 5 small high protein meals a day.

Don’t cut complex carbs from your diet it will make you crankier. Mix veggies with protein take more energy to digest.

Fill up on endorphins. Can still produce plenty thru exercise, laughter and orgasms. Keeps you away from the food fixation.

Stress and Anxiety Wreak Havoc on Hormones

Most of us would like to believe that we live and experience life through our intellect, but this is not so. Our lives are experienced through our emotions and their centers. If our reality does not reflect our beliefs, conflict is created emotionally and becomes what is called stress.

Worrying about a future event is anxiety. Both of these when persistent or ongoing can cause serious hormonal problems.

Generally,the first glands to be affected adversely by ongoing emotional stress are the adrenal glands. These glands sit over each kidney and among other things give us energy when we are active. As they weaken we get tired easily and by mid afternoon can become downright fatigued.

As the glands are weakened the thyroid gland compensates by also weakening, taking you towards a state of hypothyroidism. The thyroid is responsible for your base metabolic rate at rest. As both the adrenals and thyroid weaken, fatigue, irritability, and weight gain may be noticed.

Prolonged stress will increase the amount of insulin put out by the pancreas which over time can result in the desensitization of the insulin receptors on the cells which can lead to the condition of type II diabetes.

As you can see, the entire endocrine system comprised of the adrenals, the thyroid gland, the ovaries, the testes. the pancreas, the pituitary, and the hypothalmus all work together.

As the adrenals and thyroid deregulate, it can cause the pituitary to weaken causing problems like added weight, lessened thyroid function, fatigue, menstrual difficulties, fluid retention, and sleep difficulties.

Added weight can cause a host of other problems including the production of more estrogen leading to a state of estrogen dominance. As some of you ladies may know, this may result in heavy bleeding and clotting, irritability, depression, headaches, insomnia, mental fog, breast lumpiness, fibrocystic breasts, blood sugar instability, weight gain, uterine fibroids, polycystic ovaries, and gall bladder dysfunction.
Too much estrogen has also been associated with an increase risk of cancer.

One very important note. Any excess hormone has the potential to cause deregulation throughout the endocrine system. One of the worst offenders is the birth control pills. Women are told the pill regulates the cycle but this is not true. The pill suppresses the cycle by keeping you in estrogen dominance.
