<p>This week is my last week before I take a three week vacation from the strict diet regimen I&#8217;m on. I am delighted. By Thursday&#8217;s weigh-in I will have lost 60 pounds. Yes, 60. I still have some more to lose but I need to give my body a break &#8211; doctor&#8217;s orders. She is very careful that we are able to tolerate the program and monitors us very closely. I would like to just keep on going but she says, &#8220;Oh, no!&#8221;</p>
<p>On the three weeks off I will double my caloric intake and add foods that I have not been allowed. I&#8217;m nervous about doing it because I don&#8217;t want to gain even an ounce.But I have some strict guidelines for the three weeks and I intend to follow them precisely.</p>
<p>That I can do this is, in my  opinion, a minor (well, maybe a major) miracle. I had gained an enormous amount of weight when I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and it continued in the years that followed regardless of how little I ate or how much I exercised. Only in the last two or three years has it stabilized and I tipped the scales at &#8211; way too much. I was told by my previous primary care physician that I should forget about losing weight even though it was beginning to affect my health. He said &#8220;Women your age can&#8217;t lose weight so just forget about it.&#8221; I changed primary care physicians some months later and one of the first things the new doctor asked me is &#8220;What are you doing about your weight?&#8221;" I told HER what HE had said. She told me to run (as if I could), not walk to Dr. F. who could absolutely help me lose the weight and help me learn how to keep it off.  I am soooooooooooooo glad I changed doctors.I made an appointment right away and four months ago I started her program. Now there&#8217;s 60 pounds less of me.</p>
<p>Here are some of the wonderful benefits of losing the first 60 pounds.</p>
<ul>
<li>Everything is easier because I can get around so much better.</li>
<li>No more shortness of breath or exhaustion from walking two blocks to the grocery store and back.</li>
<li>I can reach my feet and tie my shoes.</li>
<li>I can buy regular sizes in the clothing stores. (You have no idea how I detest &#8220;Women&#8217;s&#8221;  clothing stores. I hope never to buy a &#8220;Plus Size&#8221; again).</li>
<li>My heart palpitations are gone.</li>
<li>I am beginning to feel more energy and I am about to be able to start exercising again. I love walking and look forward to some early morning excursions around my neighborhood.</li>
<li>I no longer have heartburn.</li>
<li>I look in the mirror and see someone who looks more like me.</li>
<li>I feel like going out and doing things again. Before I was just too tired.</li>
<li>My son continually lets me know how proud of me he is (and that is wonderful reinforcement).</li>
</ul>
<p>If you need to get rid of some of those pounds, don&#8217;t be afraid to find someone who can help you. There are some successful programs available. Look around to see what you have available in your area.  If you have a lot to lose, get help. don&#8217;t try to do it on your own. You will be so glad you did.</p>
