Are you a giver or a receiver?

By Irene Conlan -

The other day a friend and I were talking about Christmas and he said, “I don’t like to get gifts. I’m a giver, not a receiver.” I just let him talk but my mind went on it’s own tangent as it does sometimes when someone throws out such a thought.

It sounds great, doesn’t it? Giving seems so noble, so generous, so wonderful. We have sayings, Biblical quotations, even, such as “It is better  to give than receive,” and “God loves a cheerful giver.” We are encouraged to give – time, money, love, assistance – whatever is needed and we give awards for givers who do big deeds and give big gifts. Giving sometimes gives us  a feeling of euphoria, a “high” allowing us to feel good about ourselves and good about what we have done. I think of giving as the real “soul food” because  there is such a resultant inner blessing. I personally think that giving is a private matter and I cringe when I hear someone crowing about his/her generosity and how much they have given. But that’s my own opinion.

But there is also something special about receiving. If there were no receivers there could be no givers, could there? A gift received graciously adds exponentially to the joy of the giver. Think about it. You see something for a friend that you know he or she could use and enjoy and you buy it. It may be a tiny thing that doesn’t cost much but you know how they like this particular kind of item.  The next time you see them you present them with the gift and wait for their reaction. If  you see a smile spread over their face, their eyes dance with appreciation and their lips say, “Ohhhh, thank you soooo much. How did you ever find this? How lovely that you though of me,” you feel wonderful. You are so glad you gave it. It makes your day! On the other hand if you present it and they ignore it or look at you and say something like, “What is this? Why did you get me this? Can I take it and exchange it for something else,” your spirits may fall and you may wonder why you bothered. You didn’t give it to receive accolades and gratitude but a little appreciation would make you want to do it again, wouldn’t it?

How do you receive? Do you ask for the receipt so  you can exchange it? Do you set it aside like it’s a bother to have to carry it home? Do you let the giver know it isn’t exactly what you wanted or that  it isn’t expensive enough or isn’t the right color? Or do you smile, and oooh and ahhh, give them a hug, and  later let them see it being used or prominently displayed? What a difference gracious receiving makes.

I remember going Christmas shopping with my mother when I was about seven years old.  She let me shop freely (it was safe back then) and I bought her a “beautiful brooch” which sparkled and glittered. After Christmas she and my dad were going out and she pinned the brooch on her dress and I was elated and still remember how I felt. I thought she looked so beautiful. After her death when I was sorting her things, I found the brooch in her jewelry box. She had kept it all those ninety years since that Christmas. I was shocked at how absolutely gaudy the brooch was – really awful. But she wore it and kept it all those years and I know she recognized that it was given with great love. She was a wonderful receiver.

As  you begin this week before Christmas, think about how you can give the greatest joy to the givers of the gifts you receive. Receive with genuine enthusiasm, appreciation and grace. I think God loves a cheerful receiver, too.

Six Tips For Enjoying the Holidays Stress Free

Connie Raines -

Life in and of itself can prove to be very stressful at times, however, more often than not the holiday season can stir up quite a lot of stress. For most of us, the holidays includes too much time fighting traffic, spending way too much on our credit cards, entertaining relatives and pretending to be thrilled when we receive yet another George Foreman grill. It’s no wonder that in an effort to pull off the perfect Disney holiday you might find yourself facing an overwhelming array of chores, shopping, baking, cleaning, etc. and you have to manage to get it all done either on your days off or after work. This year, you can make it a point to enjoy the holidays more by simplifying some of the work, while maintaining what makes the holidays special: The Love and fellowship with friends and loved ones. Here are some tips to help you cope with, or even avoid holiday stress:

ASK HELP FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS Putting up a Christmas tree and other decorations can be exhausting. Asking family and friends to help is one of the best ways to save energy and have a beautifully decorated home for the holidays. If everybody in your family gets along, consider yourself blessed. But if your family is full of friction, the holidays can become very unpleasant. You can clear the atmosphere by involving everyone in the planning and decision making. Make it a party. Serve food and refreshments and have fun.

GO EASY ON ALCOHOL A stiff glass of eggnog can be a good way to toast the holiday, but don’t go overboard. Too much alcohol will only add to your stress.

KNOW YOUR SPENDING LIMIT Much of the stress of the holiday season comes from feeling pressured to buy bigger and better gifts for those we love, even if this puts us in debt. If you are a Grandparent like I am, this can be an especially challenging temptation. Expensive gifts won’t gaurantee a happy holiday. Even children will be grateful for moderately priced gifts that are chosen with care.

START YOUR HOLIDAY GIFT SHOPPING EARLY People sometimes postpone holiday shopping until the last minute, but shopping early you can avoid the stress of dealing with crowded stores and parking lots, traffic jams, cold, snowy weather, etc.

DO YOUR SHOPPING ONLINE Shopping for gifts online is an ideal way to buy gifts for friends and family. You can check your list and see how many gifts you can purchase at the same online gift store, and try to get all of your shopping done at once. Many gift store websites offer great sales and discounts, especially during the holiday season. Don’t stress yourself out wondering what gift to get for someone who has everything. You can purchase Gift Cards in different denominations, place them in a Christmas greeting card and you have the perfect gift for people of all ages.Save money, save on gas, and shop from the comfort of your home.

KEEP MOVING Exercise is always a great stress reliever. Instead of watching It’s a Wonderful Life for the 100th time, grab your favorite cousin and go for a brisk walk.It will improve your heart health and it’s a great way to shed those extra calories from eating too much of Aunt Mary’s German chocolate cake.

I hope this holiday season finds you happy, healthy, calm and peaceful. Give these tips a try, and I guarantee you’ll have less stress and more fun!!

Happy Holidays!!

“The Road, Not Macon” (with apologies to Robert Frost)

By Neil Tepper, The Creativity Doctor -

When I give a talk in Atlanta, I like to pose this question: “How do you get to Macon from here?” Usually, hands go up and everyone says: “Straight shot, down I-75.” Indeed, Macon, Georgia, is a 90-mile/90-minute drive, straight down the freeway from Atlanta.

While nodding my head in agreement, I remind the audience that there are, of course, countless ways to get to Macon. The freeway — the “straight shot” — is just one of them.

And so it is, when we consider the route to the goals in our lives — business success, meaningful relationships, happiness and well-being … Each of them an ambition to be pursued. Like Macon, a destination to be reached.

Although there are many ways to achieve our objectives, the fact is that in our 24/7/365, hurry-to-get-there lives, we usually opt for the quickest, most direct, straight shot to get there. It makes sense doesn’t it? I mean, with time ticking and competition lurking?

But what if, in passionate pursuit of our life’s desires, we pause for a moment? What if, for just a moment, we take a breath and consider the options, the alternatives — the many routes to our goal that exist in the moment — in addition to the fastest one?

So, what if … on our journey to success and fulfillment, we don’t automatically speed down I-75? What if we were to slow down and carefully consider the nature of our current circumstance? Not what was the case yesterday or might be the case next week, but what the conditions are in this moment?

Is it really a money issue that is facing us? Is it really a matter of not having enough time to accomplish what we seek? Is it really the other person that is blocking our way?

When we pause … and take an honest look at where we are now in our lives and where we’re headed, lots of ideas can occur to us. Choices open up. Alternative roads appear. Previously-hidden paths are revealed.

While the thinking mind is an amazingly effective tool, it is strict and logical, left-brain and linear, like I-75. Driven by what it thinks it knows, our thinking mind calculates the direct, business-as-usual, most predictable route to the goal. A straight shot to success and happiness.

On the other hand, the creative road is a curvy, meandering sort of right-brain ride, along the arc of the changing moment. It’s more experiential than intellectual. More steady flow than get-up-and-go. More scenic than ex-speed-ient. An unpaved path to new possibilities.

So, let’s go for a ride right now. Let’s take the creative road to Macon — to our goal —  for a change. The first thing we notice is that it’s quieter, slower, more winding than the freeway. It’s rich with sounds and scenery we’ve never experienced before. Rolling along on this ribbon of here and now, we come to appreciate the peaceful, easy feeling. No hurry, no anxiety: a relaxed ride.

Around the next bend, we see a little country store and turn towards it, oblivious of the time, ignoring the thoughts that remind us about the race to achieve and attain. We shut off the hot and overworked engine and pause to take in the cool breeze, the fragrance of wild flowers, the sounds of birds. Experiencing the moment through our senses.

We go into the store and buy a Coke. As we’re savoring the cool, sweet, fizzy drink — not even looking at our watch — an alluring woman introduces herself to us. Her name is Serendipity. Our senses tingle. A moment later, a genteel fellow shows up. His name is Synchronicity. It’s an exciting rush. And, on the way back to our car, we meet Lucky, who totally charms us. We’re soon on our way again, still headed towards our destination, but refreshed and renewed.

Now, couldn’t we have met these aspects of Creativity at Exit 39A on I-75? Of course. But, when we take the fast lane, we’re more focused on the goal ahead, the destination. We’re less aware of the present moment, the experiences on the road itself. We’re less inclined to notice the subtleties of Serendipity; less patient about spending time with Synchronicity; too rushed to see Lucky beckoning.

In freeway mode, it’s buzz in, fill-er-up and buzz out. On cruise-control. When we slow down our process — take the side roads to our goal — we’re more able to feel what’s in the moment. Our creative channel opens wide, allowing more time and space for unexpected possibilities to show up on the way to our objective.

When we tune into the moment, trust the creative process — beyond logic and history and the predictability of what we’ve always known — we free ourselves to experience new things, new people, new opportunities, along the way. In each new moment of every new day.

Of course, some circumstances in life require us to move quickly. Deadlines and payment schedules; other people and their circumstances sometimes need attention and action from us, right NOW. And, so sometimes it’s prudent to take the freeway, the highway, straightaway to our goal.

But, not all circumstances are so pressing. Not all the time. Being creative means making decisions based on an array of choices in the moment. Choosing what feels right, right here, right now. Right-brain. By pausing and feeling the moment, we can override our automatic thinking mind and use our senses to feel what’s between this and that choice. Perhaps we can choose this and that. Take the freeway for a while and side road for a few miles. There’s more than one way to Macon.

As hurrying humans, we get caught up with speed and straight lines and forget the universe is drawn in circles and curves. We forget that we have a choice in winding our way through the curvature of the world. We can choose to meander on lesser-traveled roads sometimes. When we do, we’re more likely to encounter Serendipity, Synchronicity, Lucky and other new, high ways to possibility.

So, next time you face a challenge, pursue a goal or set out on a destination you yearn to reach, remember to pause before lurching towards your been-there-done-that way of getting there. Let your senses do the driving and hear what the moment speaks to you. Open your creative channel to feel all the roads that lead from the here and now of where you are.

Many “roads diverge in the wood.” When you allow for that — when you realize that it’s the journey, not the destination; that it’s the process, not the outcome; that, it’s the road, not Macon — well, that will make all the difference.

Healthy Living Tips For Men

By John R Bradstreet -

With all the advances medicine has made in recent years it has become much more efficient at treating many health problems that we have. We all know however it is best to avoid health problems all together. By following a few simple healthy living tips you may be able to do this.

MAKE REGULAR DOCTOR VISITS

Men often ignore abnormal health symptoms and avoid going to doctors. This may be part of the reason why women tend to outlive us. Make sure that you have a yearly checkup. Make the appointment and keep it. There are some that need a little push so get a family member involved that will make sure you go to your doctor. It is in your best interest as well as theirs.

EAT A HEALTHY DIET

Avoid eating processed and fast foods. These are the types of foods that are full of sugar, unhealthy fats and salt. Instead include fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean cuts of meat into your diet. Try to eat two meals of fish per week. A good tip when grocery shopping is to concentrate on items that are on the perimeter of the store. This is the area where you will find fresh foods. The aisles, for the most part, is where the unhealthier foods are.

EXERCISE ON A REGULAR BASIS

The leading cause of death today is heart disease and regular exercise is known to be the best way that you can prevent it. Try to exercise at least 30 minutes each day. Choose something that you enjoy doing and it will be easier to stick with your program for the long term. Swimming, walking, softball or other forms of aerobic exercise will give you the most benefit.

KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR WAISTLINE

One way that you can determine if your health is at risk is by your waistline. If your waist is larger than 40 inches this may be a reason for concern. Studies have shown that men with larger waistlines are more susceptible to heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and other health issues.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING YOUR VITAMINS

You can do this in two ways. Take a multivitamin each day and make sure your diet includes vitamin rich foods. Eating foods that are high in fiber will help you accomplish this. One side note here, some commonly prescribed drugs have the effect of depleting our bodies of needed nutrients and vitamins so if you are taking anything for a condition you have it would be a good idea to speak to your doctor about this on your next visit.

STAY AWAY FROM THE COMMON HEALTH SINS

While some of this may be obvious it is still worth mentioning. Don’t smoke. This is one of the leading health risks that we face today. Even second hand smoke can have negative affects on your health and the health of people around you. It is a major contributor to lung cancer, COPD, emphysema and other diseases.

If you drink alcohol make sure that you do it in moderation. While some alcohol consumption has been reported to reduce the risk of heart disease doctors recommend that you do it in more healthy ways such as exercise. Alcoholism has negatively affected many people along with their families.

Stay away from drugs such as cocaine and anabolic steroids. Cocaine has been shown to increase the risk of heart attacks and stroke. It has become all too common for men who are trying to increase body mass to resort to steroids. Unfortunately there is a high price in term of health that is often paid.

By following these simple guidelines you can greatly increase the probability of living a much healthier and productive life. You will not only feel better but look better as well.

Morning Meditation: Starting the Day Off Peacefully

By Dr. R. Puff -

Morning meditation is a wonderful way to start a new day. Every time we wake up we have echoes that resonate in our mind from the dreams that entered during our sleep… Sometimes we even find ourselves awakening in a strange or irritated mood because of these dreams… I highly recommend morning meditation to begin a new day with optimistic thoughts. This can play a key role for starting the day with a positive attitude.

First step is to wake up peacefully. Use an alarm to awaken you slowly instead of jolting out of bed in a rush… Many times, waking up with a “rushed” feeling can leave your heart beating at a fast pace and almost panicked in feeling. Try a calm and gentle awakening, and enjoy a refreshing glass of water to begin your daily hydration. You wake up slightly dehydrated because of all of the hours you have slept. As you finish your water, take a moment to pull out a book that inspires you. Read a few paragraphs to begin to fill your mind with peaceful, relaxing and calming thoughts. A simple book of daily meditations can do the trick; but combined with a calm awakening and a refreshing glass of water, you have begun to “rehydrate” both your mind and your body.

Now that your mind is set towards a positive state, it is time to stretch your muscles. Try yoga in the morning to give a positive energy for your body. If you are able, you may also want to try Tae Bo to get yourself on your feet and started off in a positive direction from the first minute of awakening. As you begin your Yoga or Tae Bo exercise, breathe in deeply – saying “I am” and let out your breath with the word “peaceful”. Follow your breath calmly and speak aloud to yourself saying “I am peaceful”, over and over again to begin your day on an optimistic note. Next, open your windows to see the nature outside and when possible let the fresh air come into your room. If you like to pray in the morning this is the time to do so. Meditate about all the creations made by God. You do not have to be religious to see all the miracles that are happening around you, just look at nature and you will see how wonderful it is. Having barely even left your bedside, you have already begun your day in a positive light.

Now it is time to replenish the body with nourishment. Take a light breakfast, perhaps with a fresh green juice made by cucumber, collard greens and tomatoes or even a fruit juice with combined fruits like apples, pears, and bananas. An explosion of vitamins will give you energy for your body. Healthy eating with a variety of fruits and vegetables will provide a natural resource of vitamins and minerals for your body. The fact is that eating more vegetables than meats throughout the day will help keep you from many illnesses, simply by providing ample vitamins and minerals for a healthier you.

As you travel to your work, whether by car, train, subway or walking, take the time to see the beautiful landscape around you and change the direction of your thoughts and concerns to positive ones. You’re already on the road to starting your work day stress free. While at work, if you feel stressed take a short break, even if only for two minutes, and remember how well you started the day. Think back to the positive thoughts and feelings that you began your day with and allow it to refresh your inner self. Morning meditation can help you stay focused throughout the entire day. Give it a try and you’ll be surprised at how quickly you see the difference when you start your day off on a positive foot.

Positive Ways to Increase Feelings of Self Worth

By Belinda Daly -

What is self-worth? Well self-worth is a belief in yourself, a positive belief that you are as worthy as anybody else. You must remember that people from all walks of life might have the negative belief that they are not worth much. For example you could be as rich as Croesus, but if you don’t like yourself you will probably end up taking hard drugs, drinking too much hard liquor and other harmful activities that will eventually kill you.

On the other hand you might come from a working class family, but have great respect for yourself and rise from obscurity into great fame and fortune. A good example of someone with self-worth is Rosa Lewis (1867-1952, a British chef and owner of the Cavendish Hotel, Jermyn Street, London. Rosa left school at 12 and went into domestic service. She worked herself up from scullery maid into a first class chef. She cooked for Edward VII and one of her employers was Lady Randolph Churchill, Winston Churchill’s mother. She was also called the “Queen of Cooks” by the renowned chef August Escoffier who, she claimed, taught her to cook. So it is important to remember that self-worth is an essential feeling within yourself and not something you can acquire from outside influences.

Below are positive ways to increase feelings of self-worth:

• Having a goal/s is a great way to get self-worth. If you have a goal do something each day, however minor, to achieve it.

• Do not feel guilty for the past. What I mean is don’t feel guilty for some minor upset you may have caused someone in the past. Learn self-forgiveness because we all make mistakes.

• Before retiring to bed, write something down that you feel delighted about that you have done in the past or present.

• It is always a good idea to communicate to someone how much you appreciate them. The person will appreciate your honesty and you will feel noble because of it.

• It is important to learn the ability to say “no” without upsetting the person requesting.

• Don’t let people take advantage of you. This may be hard at first but if you want people to respect you and to gain self-worth you can’t let people walk all over you.

• Don’t procrastinate. If you want to do something, do it. For example if you want to learn a new skill do it now or otherwise you never will. Procrastination makes you feel ashamed of yourself which is not good for feelings of self-worth.

The above 7 positive suggestions to increase your self-worth are just some ways of helping you become that positive person you want to be. Don’t delay, go out and be that person of ACTION you want to be!

Abundant Happiness

By Beverly Wallin -

Each one of us as an individual have different desires from life. There are many various ways that we use to measure happiness. Some of the ways that people measure happiness are through spiritual connections, gender, age or marital status. The road to discover your deepest happiness and satisfaction comes from introspection. Have you taken the time to really explore your deepest desires?

“Happiness is a direction, not a place”~Sydney J. Harris

Simplify your life. Slow down and appreciate what is around you. Remain in the present, stay connected and don’t focus on the future. Try to leave some margins in your schedule. Complete tasks in appropriate time and leave those margins or spaces to do only one thing at a time.

Choose happy folks. Happiness is contagious. If you have happy friends and acquaintances, the positive feelings just radiate to all around. Happy people seek out other happy people to spend their time with and in doing so, happiness multiplies.

Exercise is a method used to increase your energy levels decrease stress and boost happiness hormones known as endorphins. It is a great idea to enjoy a varied exercise routine. Aerobic activities such as running gives a high level of endorphin release. Spending time in nature is another happiness thrust as is the physical act of walking and enjoying the scenery. Oxygen enriched trees, sun and wind all play an important part in reducing stress and increasing happiness levels.

Allow yourself the expressions of hurt, happiness, disappointment and anger. Don’t dwell on or embrace the negatives. Sometimes all that is required is a simple acknowledgment. It is important from an emotional perspective to acknowledge the feelings of others and how they impact you

Solitude and meditation are perfect for achieving balance and full happiness. Solitude is great for reflection and meditation gives you a sense of mindfulness and higher understanding. This allows you to put any problems you may have into perspective.

The real testament to happiness is in knowing how to be in the moment. This moment is a wonderful one.

How to Create a Self Assessment For Personal Growth

By Helena Ritchie -

One of the most helpful tools in charting your personal growth is the self assessment. The self assessment, or “reality check” as it is sometimes called, will give you a birds-eye view of your life at the exact moment you complete it. It’s a great tool to use for determining the starting point in a new personal development plan. It’s also a great tool to chart your progress because when done regularly, they provide you with an overview of your life, your successes and accomplishments. At the same time, they also help to point out any weak spots or areas where you still need to make changes.

Creating a self assessment can be as easy or as complicated as you want to make it. On the one hand, you don’t want it to be so complicated that just the thought of it stresses you out. At the same time, you want to force yourself to have to think about it enough that the results are actually useful.

One of the easiest ways I’ve found to do a self assessment is to simply divide your life into categories such as job, family, relationships, fitness, and any others that you can think of and then rate how satisfied you feel with each on a scale from one to ten. The areas that rank on the lower end of the scale will most likely be the highest priority when it comes to make life changes.

Once you have the areas of your life rated on the satisfaction scale, you can expand your assessment to include in-depth examinations of areas such as your feelings about the state of your life, and the type of changes you might like to make. At the end of your self assessment session you can also take time to brainstorm ideas and plans for making changes. You can also include a space for keeping track of the progress you are making on any goals and projects that you’ve already started working on.

By keeping track of your progress with periodic self assessments you will see exactly how much you are achieving. This can come in handy when you’re feeling like everything is at a standstill. When you look back over past assessments and compare where you were then to where you are now, you’ll surprise yourself with you far you’ve actually traveled on your path of personal growth.

3 Tips to Staying Happy During the Holidays

By Jason Osborn -

The holiday season is upon us and for most, it is a happy time. However, for you, it may be one of the loneliest and depressing times of the year. You may experience these same sad emotions at different times throughout the year but for many, the holiday season can be the toughest. Here are 3 simple tips to help you stay happy and overcome any holiday blues.

Help Others in Need

You may not feel like helping anyone right now but it is one of the best solutions out there to get your mind off being sad. You see, the more you focus on your worries or problems, the bigger they become. Before you know it, you are depressed and can’t wait for this time to pass. But it you can get out and find someone in an equal or worse situation then you, help them in any way you can. This will bring you joy and may even help you stay happy the whole season.

Be Around People

Again, this can be very difficult to do but will help you in more ways than one. You may even have to force yourself to be around people but do it and determine that you are going to have a good time as well. If you have friends or family you can be around, that’s great. If you don’t there are loads of organizations that need your help this time of year. Go ask them what you can do and start making some new friends. And remember, have a good time doing it.

Don’t Focus on the Negative

The reason why most people struggle this time of year is because it reminds them of a loved one or maybe someone/something they don’t have. The best thing you can do is make a decision to not dwell on the negatives. This won’t always be easy but it is a must if you want to stay happy. One of the best ways to do this is every time a negative or sad thought comes, think of something happy. I know this may sound crazy but the more you can associate happiness with things, the more you will be happy.

How to Deal With Your Self-Doubt

By Jimmy Labrador -

At any point in any undertaking you are pursuing by yourself, you can be overtaken by self-doubt. Self-doubt is a strong feeling or conviction that you cannot possibly succeed because you lack the capability to do so. This is a normal experience with practically everyone. Even the most accomplished persons experience self-doubt at some point. How can you handle self-doubt and prevent it from torpedoing your chances of succeeding? I suggest the following:

MASTER YOUR FEAR OF FAILURE

Doubting your chances of succeeding may be unavoidable. But so what? It should not deter you from pushing through with your plans. While you would like to avoid failure as much as possible, failure is always a possibility and should be taken as part of the givens in life. What you can do is change our attitude towards failure, not try to avoid it. Failure can be a teacher and as such, it could be the intermediate step towards success. Having a more positive attitude towards failure can cure your paralysis brought about by your self-doubt. Self-doubt instills the fear of failure. But if you you’re not afraid of failing anymore, what would be the impact of self-doubt to you? It loses its significance and meaning. Just go ahead and take a shot!

KNOW THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF UNKNOWNS

Your success is not solely dependent on you. Once you have put things in motion, you will be attracting situations that you have not previously considered in your planning. Help from other people may come unexpectedly. Synchronicity of events favorable to you may happen. There are many accounts about these in success stories. The problem is if self-doubt overtakes you and you desisted from further actions because of that, you would have cut yourself from these possible sources of help. Your self-doubt becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. You doubt your chances of success and therefore, you assure yourself of failure. Move outside of that mindset.

STOP ENTERTAINING YOUR NEGATIVE SELF-TALK

In most cases, the primary source of your self-doubt is the incessant negative talk going on inside your brain. The cure is to simply stop entertaining them. You can do this by simply becoming aware of the negative talk. As you focus your awareness on the negative talk going on inside you, you will experience a shift in perspective. You will realize that it is not you – the real you – that is actually engaged in the negative talk but some independent aspect of your mind. It functions like a recording continuously playing words, phrases, or sentences designed to erode your self-confidence. As you focus your awareness on it, it will fade into the background. As soon as that happens, just proceed on with your work. Repeat focusing your awareness when the negative self-talk begins to surface again. You can do this over and over again until your self-doubt loses its power on you.

Self-doubt can be a very disempowering state of mind that can guarantee your failure if you do not learn to face it head on. The cure is also within you by taking the above shifts in perspective that will nullify your self-doubt.
