Slow Down – Don’t Miss The Precious Moments In Life

By Kimberley Cohen -

Our days can be busy. In fact too busy sometimes with appointments, house and/or office work, to-do lists, schedules, meetings, racing from one place to another, grocery shopping, errands, planning, etc.

If you have children, that can add a whole other dimension to busyness just on its own!

Whew… I don’t know about you, but I become tired just reading the list of ways our lives can become one gigantic timetable of events and things to do.

Then there are days with the extra challenges, as if you didn’t have enough already.

Those are the ones where your emotions are running higher than usual, and uncertainties seem like they are around every corner you turn. Your fears and stress seem to be taking on a whole new meaning which makes your ordinary hectic day seem like a picnic compared to the frantic emotive day you are facing.

Some days can feel like a ride at amusement park where you want to, or may have screamed, “Stop. Let me off this ride.” Mine was the scrambler at the town fair.

Sometimes in life we just have to say, “Stop. Slow down a minute. Breathe.”

Days are filled with precious moments with your name on them waiting to save you and be savoured by you.

Unless you reduce your speed, pause, or stop altogether, they will go unnoticed and unappreciated.

Some people don’t see them; others see them but don’t feel them or appreciate the value they are offering.

What could restore you to sanity and peace is missed in the chaos and insanity of your day and your thinking.

Let those moments sink in for a minute. Allow them to restore and renew you. Acknowledge their gifts. Appreciate what they can do for you.

What are these precious moments? Anything and everything!

To name just a few, right now as I’m sipping a cup of warm Chai tea I can see a plant, my cozy blanket, the sun shining through the window and warming the room, squirrels running and playing in the branches of the pines, snow sparkling on the ground, I hear my daughter in the kitchen, our cat is curled up on my legs, and I’m aware of the comfort of the couch under me.

There isn’t a day that goes by that I can’t find at least one thing to appreciate and let seep into my senses and transform a demanding day back to one of ease, patience, and peace.

Sure, sometimes it takes a bit longer than others depending on the day, but it all comes down to allowing yourself to slow down enough to acknowledge and allow those times in.

Look around you. What do you see, smell, taste, touch, or hear? If you can’t appreciate anything in your immediate surroundings, step outside for a minute and take a deep breath.

Nature is overflowing with abundant, magnificent, beautiful and breath-taking precious moments ready to fill your soul and replenish and lift your spirit.

Your senses are a wonderful way to move you out of busyness and back to beingness, but it doesn’t stop there.

What are they really offering you? It could be peace, a break, inspiration, hope, freedom, love, connection, energy, etc.

Let these invaluable moments work their magic in your heart, your days, and your life.

Don’t let them pass you by any longer.

Take time at the end of the day to write down these precious moments and let them sink in even deeper.

What were they?

What did you receive from them?

How did they help you?

What are you learning about you through them?

At the end of the day, what really matters?

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart.” Helen Keller

Taking Time to Live on Purpose

By Reeny Carvotta Barron -

We’re all busy – it’s just the way we live, with a constant input of information, media, people around us. Sometimes we get so caught up in doing that we just go through our days, getting ‘stuff’ done, going through the motions, anxious to get on to the next thing to get it done and we can move through our lives just doing. We forget about being. We forget that we are human beings, not human doings. We get used to the busy-ness and empty space and open time becomes time to be filled, so we don’t stop, we don’t think. This happens to everyone at some point, at least for some period of time.

And, sometimes great productivity comes from being busy and getting things done. Our jobs and businesses sometimes demand we give and give and give, sometimes until we burn out. And then, we give some more. Especially women. So often we put others needs before our own and we mostly do it graciously and easily. But what about you?

Does being so busy feed your soul?

Does it take you away from what is yours to do?

Does it help you live your life on purpose?

It might. But taking some time – even now and then to stop and think about what is yours to do is soul-nourishing. By what is your to do, I don’t mean your job description, I mean your deep down purpose, what you are here to do and be. It doesn’t need to be earth-shattering, or revolutionary, but it does need, on some level, to feed your soul and make you feel alive and full of purpose. It may mean pursuing an entrepreneurial or business dream. It may look like how you show up in the world.

Sometimes it can be as simple as aligning with your purpose and showing up in the world living your values. We can all have impact every day, in the world we move in. Does a kind word or gesture or someone taking the extra moment to acknowledge you make a difference in your world? That happens when someone, living their purpose connects with you. What is theirs to do is show up kind and thoughtful. And it does make a difference in the world.

You know you’re doing what is yours to do when you feel in alignment and you sense that inner peace, or even inner excitement, however that ‘on the right track’ feeling shows up for you. What’s important is to take the time to tune into it. You might be surprised to find it doesn’t take long to do and that the satisfaction you experience in your life increases significantly. I believe that deep down we all really know the answers we are seeking, we just need to take the time to tune in, get quiet and be.

That may have gotten more difficult to do, but I’m proposing that rewards are proportionally greater too. Make sense? The busier you are, the harder it is to slow down and just be. BUT – the rewards you get are proportional to how busy you are. In other words you don’t need to slow down completely and you don’t need a whole lot of time to do it, which is good news for the chronically busy (!). The value you’ll get and the results you’ll experience are so well worth it. Here’s to unplugging, tuning into your true purpose and showing up the way you choose in your life and in the world.

Slow down

By Irene Conlan -

I woke up early this morning feeling pressured even before I got out of bed. So much to do. Let me think. What’s the schedule like for today? How many appointments?  Who’s on my schedule?  Gotta meet someone at the airport. Yikes!

The computer was waiting for me as if it knew I was in a rush before I even sat down. I never turn it off although I do put it to sleep at night. But it’s always ready.

I sat down to begin the daily blogs and  a song began to play  in my head. It’s an old one – actually a very old one – and some of you reading this blog may never have heard it or heard  of Simon and Garfunkel. It’s a 60′s song but more relevant today than it was when it was written. It’s called The 59th Street Bridge or Feelin’ Groovy. I checked on YouTube and there it was.  Perhaps you’d like to click on it bekiw and listen while you finish reading this. I won’t be long today.

Everything seems to move at warp speed these days and we all seem to have much more to do than we can accomplish. We seem to rush from job to job and from place to place.  The technological age didn’t take the load off but gave us even more to do. It was supposed to make life easier.  Sometimes it feels like we don’t have time to catch our breath.

We wonder why we feel so stressed, so tired, so ready to snap sometimes. It’s because we don’t take time to “be.” We forget to enjoy the beauty along the way because we have so much we think we have to do and so little time to get it all done.

It’s as much an attitude as a reality. There are cultures in the world who don’t rush like we do and they still survive – and survive very well. They have time to smell the flowers, play with their children, and just “be.” Even with the overload, you will get things done easier and better if you take some time throughout you day to relax a moment, catch your breath and clear you mind.

So for a few moments just listen. Just be. Slow down. Smile.  Get ready to enjoy your day. Let this little song get inside your head and play all day.  I’ll betcha that, even though it’s an out-of-date-phrase, if you allow it, you’ll soon be Feelin’ Groovy.

Have a great  day.
