3 Steps to Happiness and Prosperity

By Loretta Love Huff -

It’s funny how we hold onto discarded things not realizing what that does to trap our energy. What I discovered when I stumbled upon a relic from my past could help you free up some mental and emotional energy to reinvest in your current day-to-day life.

I had just missed participating in a “Sell Your Gold” event at my professional association’s holiday extravaganza.

So when I returned home, I started combing my closets and jewelry cases for items that had lost their psychological value for me that I could turn into cash.

I came upon a beautiful ring case, not even remembering which ring was inside. When I opened it up, I was surprised to find my ‘half’ of a wedding band set my previous husband and I had designed.

The set was laden with Adrinka symbols that had a lot of significance for us and where we each were in our spiritual life journey.

Years later as our marriage faltered and I realized I was more attached to that ring and the symbols of our marriage than our ACTUAL marriage, I knew it was time to go. We separated and divorced. I tucked the ring away, moved on, moved to Phoenix, married my college sweetheart and forgot about the ring.

A few years ago, I stumbled upon the ring and looked at it fondly – not longing at all for the ex-husband, but touched by the symbols and design process that had created the ring years earlier. I put it away again and apparently, forgot about it again.

Last week, in my hunt for buried jewels, I found it once more. This time, my reaction was “Whoo hoo! Bonanza! This will be a great trade in!” There were some remnant memories of the creation process but clearly any attachment I had for keeping the ring was gone. I took a picture, called the gold dealer, got in the car happy and was on my way.

I got a better price than expected. Double Bonanza!

On the drive home, even though I’ve been happily married for almost seven years, I was surprised about the sense of light-heartedness and freedom I felt. Getting that forgotten and years-unseen ring out of my home and life somehow felt like an unexpected Declaration of Independence.

Reminds me of that hair dye commercial based on the South Pacific song, “Gonna Wash that Man/Grey Right Out of My Hair”.

While I hadn’t been feeling the need to wash the ex right out of my hair any longer, once the opportunity arose, it felt great!

So, how does this apply to you?

1. Clean up. Clean out.

Cleaning your environment and life of discarded and unnecessary things, frees up an amazing amount of energy that you can’t anticipate nor appreciate until you’ve done it. So go through your drawers, closets, garage and car to throw out, give away or sell things that are taking up physical space. They’re probably draining your emotional space on an undetectable, subconscious level too. You’ll be energized by their absence.

2. Forgive and move on.

I read a Facebook post on someone’s wall today about the power of forgiveness. The main reason people seem reluctant to forgive is that they think they’re doing something for the object of their resentment. The secret is that forgiveness is just for you. It allows you to at least start the process to ‘wash that memory out of your life.” Forgiveness takes time, but if you’re not willing, you can’t even get started. If you’ve been holding on to any grudges, tell yourself you’re WILLING to forgive and eventually you will. You won’t forget the lessons you learned, but you will regain part of your soul.

3. Give thanks for what you have

Every night I say thanks for the life I’m living. Some people keep a gratitude journal that documents the wonderful things in their lives. Writing makes them more real and less transitory (ergo forgotten). Tell the people around you precisely what you appreciate about them. You’ll lighten their day immeasurably and feel happier yourself. I remember reading a book on loving relationships and one of the exercises involved saying something nice to your partner every day. Not only does that bring more love and joy into the relationship, but by some function of the ego which can’t distinguish between you and ‘other’, makes you feel happier too.

So clean out those closets, brains, hearts and relationships and make room for new, happy and prosperous experiences in your life.

Stress Management Using Mindful Awareness

By Ruthan Brodsky -

Stress is a major health topic these days. It seems that constant contact with media your smart phone, tweeting or text messaging or answering your email, constant contact with family friends and strangers is causing more stress than a fax or TV commercial could ever have done. These communication devices plague us at home, at work, on the road, and for many they sleep right next to us. In fact, the more you read about stress the more you realize just how pervasive it really is.

Just about everyone in the medical area, whether it be a family physician or a podiatrist, is concerned with the unhealthy impact too much stress can have on their patients. It seems that stress is a major factor even for kids in elementary school who show concern about getting good grades or being in the good graces of a friend or getting on the baseball travel team.

I recently received a mailer that a local hospital was giving classes on Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction. The concept of Mindfulness has been around for some time. I remember reading about mindfulness-based stress reduction in the 80s and 90s. At that time it was considered a way of learning to relate directly to whatever is happening in your life so that you can take charge of your life. It was considered a way of doing something for yourself that no one else could do for you. It was a question of paying attention to what was causing the stress so that you could deal with it better whether it is dealing with your job loss, the fact that you have breast cancer or your marriage is falling apart. The concept is that being mindful you can consciously and systemically learning to respond to your own stress, pain, illness as well as the challenges and demands of every day life

Some call it a new area of interest where medicine and psychology meld but those of us who have been long aware of the mind body connection simply see the concept as another how to for making the connection. I have always thought that mindfulness would work well with adults who have an attention disorder because basically what it is training the mind through certain exercises to stay more focused on the present rather than letting the mind ruminate about the past and agonize over the future.

In other words being mindful, being in the present is another way of approaching reducing stress. If we learn to stay in the present we are likely to feel more at peace about where we are. Mindful stress reduction works for many especially those who must deal with serious illnesses. It also works for many people who are becoming ill because of their stress. There are many meditation techniques and practitioners tend to apply their own descriptions and emphasis when teaching. The terms don’t really matter because all of meditation involves arriving at a peaceful, a calm state of mind.

A hospital with an Integrative Medicine department, patients who want to decrease their stress level and their blood pressure often engage in mindfulness based stress reduction. So do cancer patients who are trying to keep a more positive attitude as well as boost their immune function. The hospital found that participants in this program were able to reduce their sleep disturbances. There were also significant reductions I stress, fatigue and negative mood.

Medical research repeatedly demonstrates that the power of the mind really does influence the body. When you think, for example, your brain is firing various neurotransmitters and other neural activity. This is the same neural network that is responsible for all your physical activities such as walking and breathing. By learning to actively calm your mind you figure out how to be your own best ally in the mind and thought response reaction you have to what is taking place around you and play a support role rather than staying oblivious to the role you’re playing.

For example, cancer patients need to learn positive self talk and practice meditation or yoga to help them feel grateful for all they do have instead of always being fearful and feeling lost. The point is most of our thinking is habitual and we have been conditioned to think this way or that whether we have been diagnosed with breast cancer or have not found a job in 10 months. Once we understand the trap our thinking has become, then we can focus on whatever energy it takes to focus on promoting our own health. The thought behind the mindfulness philosophy is that once we learn to stay in the present we develop the ability to experience life in richer ways.

Stress and anger are part of life. However, the way your body reacts to uncontrolled stress and anger is a risk factor for heart disease. In fact, some research reports that anger can be just as much of a risk factor for heart disease as smoking, obesity and lack of exercise.

The Importance of Laughter in Everyday Life

laughterBy Luke David Moseley -

Life is a beautiful thing and this fact is often underestimated by people in the hectic routine of daily life. Most of the people we meet in our daily lives are either suffering from some sort of stress or depression, or they are feeling restless. Happiness and serenity has become an elusive phenomenon. Recent advances in medical science have revealed that happiness can be achieved in life with a mere smile on your face. Many comedians are often heard saying that they serve the humanity and this statement is nothing but the truth.

Some of the benefits of laughter have been found to include the following:

Safeguarding against illness

It has been found that a man who enjoys life and has a greater opportunity to laugh has a stronger immunity system than those who are tense. It is not merely coincidence that people who remain happy are healthier and they are also well protected against diseases. Secondly, if these healthy souls are suffering from any illness, then they also recover quickly from such setbacks.

Taking things Easy

The fact of the matter is that the real world is filled with all sorts of problems which are enough to drive a person insane. But the only way out of this problematic world is to laugh things off! As laughter is so often associated with happiness, people start feeling positive when they laugh in times of trouble. You simply have to accept the harsh reality of life that you can’t win every time you play, so you’ll have to laugh in the face of defeat so that you live to fight another day.

Stress Reduction

In today’s world stress and anxiety has become an integral part of every person’s life. While some get stressed watching the violence on TV, others have stressful 9 to 5 jobs. Laughter can also reduce the level of stress and anxiety you are experiencing, as a light joke or a funny event at workplace can do wonders for you. Laughter is just the right medicine to reduce stress and anxiety.

Laugh, and Keep Diseases at Arm’s Length

Laughter can be a strong protection against many diseases and psychological disorders. Many people who are stress patients are more prone to suffering from stomach ulcer which is in one way or the other associated with stress. Similarly, hypertension is a deadly mental disorder which can even force patients to commit suicide, but the remedy of laughter can keep your mood bright enough so that you see the brighter side of things even when the going gets tough. As laughter relieves tension, your body muscles relax which is very helpful for your body health.
A Healthier & Longer Life

Those who live a jolly life and don’t look for a reason to laugh live longer than those who take too much stress and depression. And the simple reason for this phenomenon is that laughter reduces your stress, thus saving you from a number of stress-associated diseases which can be life-threatening. As you stay away from stress and anxiety, your immune system remains more effective, hence making sure you live a healthy and long life!

The fact of the matter is that every one likes a person who frequently laughs and makes others laugh. If you are a jolly person who has the nerve to withstand adversities and still come with a one-liner that elates your friends and family members, you will have many friends and living life will become much easier for you!

Stress Management – Chill Out With Cool Questions

By Ilenya Marrin  http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ilenya_Marrin

Solutions Lower Stress

After watching me lead a seminar related to managing stressful change, someone asked if there is a training program to learn how to do what I was doing.  There may be, but I don’t know of one offhand and have never been to one.  I commented in a wry fashion, “I make it up.”

What I was really saying is, I draw on all that I know from my life and work to think in terms of solutions.  Then I ask penetrating questions to help others explore and come to their own solutions.  I ask questions that lead people to focus on what works.  Solutions lower stress. [Read more...]
