The Power of Thought and You

By Ahmed Serag -

Say you’re in your car and just about ready to drive. But you want to put on some good music first. Why? Because it puts you in a good mood and it makes you happy.

So you turn the radio on, it receives the input for the first station, and the music starts playing. It’s Lady Gaga. You’ve got to change the station quick because you don’t like Lady Gaga. So you keep switching the dial, the output, until you find something you like.

In this case, it’s Muse. You absolutely love Muse. You turn it up, and for a short time you’re very happy. You’re not thinking of any problems, what type of car you’re in, bills, etc… You’re just happy.

Your Mind:

You send and receive signals. Every day, every hour, and every minute, you are sending and receiving. The output is your thoughts and feelings, the input is what occurs and what is brought into your life. With every thought, you are participating in this process.

Your thought is the output, just like the dial, you’re telling the world what you want in your life. Thoughts of bills, arguments, stress will only bring back just the same. Just like if you were to only put the dial on rap stations, you generally wouldn’t get back rock music.

If you want good things, think and feel good things. The “problem” is that we have somewhere over 60,000 thoughts a day. So we can’t exactly control 60,000 thoughts a day, unless we can.

Let me explain.

Like I said, your mind is a like the radio. Your thoughts are sending out signals of what you want, and based on what you project out, you receive back. If you don’t like what’s coming back in (bills, arguments, etc…) change the station. Change the dial with your thoughts.

But what about the 60,000 thoughts?! Those thoughts all start somewhere.

Example: You wake up groggy, drained, and stressed, and the day is already bad. Because of this, your thoughts are running wild with things like “this day is going to be horrible”, etc… the receive on that is exactly what you want. Bad things continually happen, small or large, you attracted them into your life.

Now, let’s say you start the day off groggy, drained, and stressed, but decide to change the day with a little positivity. Unless you’re the ultimate pessimist (even if you are, there’s still hope) a positive thought will branch out to more positive thoughts, regardless of the resistance. This is because the positive thought is paired with a positive feeling.

Positive people attract positive thoughts and positive situations. Negative people attract negative thoughts and negative situations. It’s not some type of act or show. Look around you, the evidence is there.

So quick recap: Your thoughts are signals to the universe of what you want to receive back. You want something? Start transmitting thoughts that will get you “X”. An important factor to remember is to make sure you’re not just thinking positive, but feeling positive.

If we attempt to make sure our root thoughts are good thoughts, we can predict the branch thoughts will also be good. And bad thoughts can easily be changed into good with feeling. Gratitude, laughter, smiling, etc… all add power to thoughts through feeling. Good feelings lead to a more powerful attraction method and also branch off to better thoughts.

Each thought will branch off another one, so the very first of thought, will lead to the very last, 60,000th thought. Start off positive, end positive.

You have the power to improve your life right now. But only if you are truly ready for it. Come check out my high traffic website, LIVING! Not Surviving

A Lesson From “The Bachelor”

mindBy Irene Conlan -

Now and then I watch “The Bachelor” because I find it such a fascinating display of human nature. Put twenty five women who are interested in the same man in a house together and you have a blueprint for near disaster. The claws come out, the backbiting begins and the gossip rumbles. If Jake were smart, he’d turn around, get on his motorcycle and go home.

What interested me about the show that aired on January 18th were the comments by one of the women who did not get a rose and had to go home. In her “last statement for the camera” as she was leaving Valisha said through tears,  “I’m used to things not going my way. And that’s something I’ve learned to live with.” She was a beautiful woman but not one who pushed and shoved to get attention. She would have been a good choice for Jake but she wasn’t seen in the midst of those who were clawing and scratching their way to the forefront. She, however, believed that she would not win. That subtle knowing  that she has to get used to losing because she never wins was her undoing.

Thoughts create. Positive thoughts create positive outcomes. Negative thoughts create negative outcomes. Simplistic? Yes. But true. You’ve heard the saying, “Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.” While losing and being sent home was not a conscious wish, it nevertheless was as powerful as if it had been a plan.

We’ve all anticipated negative outcomes and, sure enough, what we dreaded the most happened.:

  • You tripped while you were crossing the stage – you knew you would and voiced your thoughts to a friend beforehand, “I hope I don’t trip and embarrass myself.”
  • You got up to make the speech and forgot everything you had planned to say – just like you feared you might.
  • You broke up with your boyfriend over a tiny disagreement – you just knew this was too good to last.

Some call these self fulfilling prophecies. What they are is the demonstration of the power of thought and how your thinking creates your reality.

This isn’t the kind of thought that just flits through your mind occasionally – we have a parade of thoughts marching through our minds all the time. This is the thought that is deep and has emotion attached to it. Like, “I’m not good enough” or “I always lose” like Valisha on The Bachelor believed.  These are the thoughts that create. These thoughts help you  self sabotage so you unknowingly do things  that cause you  to lose or keep you from doing things that will help you win.

Pay attention to your thoughts. Let the words  “always”,  “never,” every”  and  “too”  alert you to possible negative limiting beliefs such as -  I’m to old. I’m too young. I’m to fat. I’m too stupid. I’m not good enough or I’m not as good as. I’ll never amount to anything. I always lose/I never win. Everything I do goes wrong.

What if Valisha went into the program “The Bachelor” believing she was a winner and that she always wins but in the third week she was home? What might her point of view be?

  • She won a position on the show. She was one out of how many hundreds or thousands who auditioned?
  • She made it through several cuts before she was eliminated. Out of 25 who started she made it to the group of 10.
  • She could leave with her dignity in tact because she was not a major player in the backbiting, jealousy, and cat fighting that was taking place in the group.
  • She looked great in front of how many thousands (millions?) of people?
  • She was indeed a winner and “Mr. Right” was not Jake.

This is all conjecture, of course, based on the statement she made when she was leaving. If I could say something to Valisha I would tell her to let her thoughts wrap around all the positives that came from being on the show and I would encourage her to begin to journal what her strengths are as well as all the things she has to be grateful for and that she appreciates. A steady dialog with herself on these positives will help change her thinking about herself and bring her the outcomes she desires.

Valisha, in my book, you are, indeed a winner.

Avoiding the Seven Out of Ten Trap

arizonaBy Dr. Kevin Elko -

I have always loved the story of A.J. Muste who stood outside the White House holding a single lit candle throughout the Vietnam War. Night after night, often times in the rain, he stood there with his candle. One night, a reporter came to him and asked, “Do you really think you are going to change the world or the policies of this government by standing here holding a candle?” He responded, “I do not do this to change the world, I do this so the world does not change me.”

When I was a school teacher, I found a few teachers who were bitter at the end of their career. But I came to realize it was not the teaching profession, it was every profession. You enter it full of enthusiasm but suffer a few unfair setbacks, which every profession eventually offers, and then the world changes you. You become the ordeal and eventually that becomes your fabric. The fact of the matter is that research studies find that seven out of ten people are angry all day long. Were they born this way?

If we do not stay aware of this issue, this happens to all of us, or at least seven out of ten. How does this happen? A study was posted in the Wall Street Journal that said the number one factor of our weight is the weight and habits of our friends. If they are healthy we become healthy. We become what we are surrounded with. The reverse has to be true then, if they are bitter and negative, what fate waits for us? We will become bitter and negative.

You and I have been there. We are perfectly calm and we get in a car on the freeway and it begins. I once pulled out on a busy ramp and a guy pulled beside me in a minivan and pretended to shoot me with his finger, which he made look like a gun. I found myself alot different than five minutes earlier. Like I said, we have all been there.

Also, who has not come in contact with someone very judgmental at work? They have many opinions about others, which occupies their day, and they love to share them. They get some sort of secondary gain by judging. What keeps you and I from becoming as angry as them and falling into the trap of seven out of ten. It is a trap that allows evil to have an advantage over us.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. We must choose the opposite. Instead of looking for something that will allow us to fall into the seven out of ten category, look for something that allows us to fall into the three out of ten. Wake up and make a statement, I am going to look for, and only for, one new thing to be thankful for today I am going to look for something admirable in one person. I am going to be thankful that one person crossed my path.

According to the words written in red, we must react that way, If someone says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar, for he who does not love his brother who he has seen, cannot love God who he has not seen (1 John 4:21). We must make a conscious decision that we are going to be the three out of the ten. We do that by setting our sail and saying, “Tonight when I lay to fall asleep, I will state out loud, thank you for this one new thing I found that kept me as one of the three. This one thing enabled me today to not allow this world to change me. I ended this day and will start tomorrow with the heart of a child.”

Meister Elkhart said if you could utter only one prayer let it be, “Thank you.” Thank you Karen for being a great wife and best friend. Thank you Claire and Jared for bringing me more joy in my life that I ever thought was possible. and thank you, the reader of this newsletter, for being the best audience when I am out there and bringing even more meaning to what I do.” I just finished my one prayer.

You Are Your Thoughts?

By Larry Agresto -

Think about this for a moment, where do your thoughts come from, really, where do they come from? You don’t just pull them out of thin air; they don’t get dropped at your front door like the morning paper or delivered like the US mail but, they come from somewhere right. Well, your thoughts actually come from your paradigms or past experiences. We talked about this in chapter one “Paradigms-Your Mindset.” As your thoughts go, so goes your life. That’s why it’s important for you to understand the connection between your thoughts and your paradigms. No matter how you slice it, the bottom line is, you are your thoughts. That’s why it’s key to understand where our thoughts come from, which are our past experiences. Did you know that we think up to 60,000 thoughts each and every day. As we grow older, did you know that the majority of those thoughts are based on our past paradigms, good or bad. Whenever we have an experience in our life, at any stage in our life, our brain stores the memory from the experience like the software on your computer stores a file that you’ve written. Your brain actually files away the memory and for the rest of your life, that memory is there. The memories that our brain stores away when we’re younger, let’s say as young kids, actually colors how we experience future events in our life. In other words, your memory bank sets up a “memory database,” that your brain will tap into and call on in the future. This is why it is so important as young individuals to understand what we’re feeding our brains with, positive or negative thoughts.

Yesterday’s Thoughts Let’s visit a specific example of how this process actually works. Okay, you’re a kid again, place yourself in that frame of mind; living at home with your parents, going to school, homework, baseball, tree houses, playing with dolls etc. Now, lets take a moment and talk about riding that bike once again, as we did in chapter one. We’re going to do a comparison of two young boys, attempting to ride their bikes for the first time, each having a different experience. Tommy is excited about riding his bike for the first time but he’s also a little scared. He’s waiting for dad to come home from work because dad promised to teach him how to ride his bike when he gets home. Dad arrives home and out to the driveway they go. He jumps on the bike and attempts to go from one end of the driveway to the other but on the first try he doesn’t make it. No biggie says his dad, just jump back on and try again. So, he walks the bike back to the starting point, jumps back on and try’s again. This time he makes it to the end of the driveway with a huge grin on his face. Excited, he yells out to his dad “hey dad, I did it.” The father proudly acknowledges and as a reward asks his son if he wants to venture out and ride on the sidewalk and away they go. So, Tommy heads out to the neighborhood and proceeds to ride his bike up and down the sidewalk in front of his house, until dinner is ready. Like Tommy, Jimmy is equally excited and a little scared. His father also promised to take him out for his first bike ride when he gets home from work that evening. Once his dad arrives home, he and Jimmy walk his bike to one end of the driveway, as his father starts to give him tips on how to ride a bike and reminds him about balance and looking straight ahead. He starts his ride but doesn’t go very far and immediately falls off. Discouraged, his father encourages him to try again and so he does; this time he goes a little further but falls off again. Jimmy makes a few more attempts with the same result and then mom calls out that dinner is ready. Jimmy never got the chance that evening to successfully ride his bike up and down his driveway. Guess what he does with the experience? The next day in school, Tommy is so excited to tell all of his classmates about his experience.

He’s proud of himself and can’t wait to get home again from school to go riding again. The memory he stores in his brain of his first bike ride is a positive one, full of joy and excitement. As he gets older, the positive experience will serve him well when he attempts his next challenge to catch a baseball, swing a bat or graduate to a bigger bike. One of his classmates is Jimmy and although Tommy isn’t trying to rub it in, he shares his excitement with Jimmy as well. Jimmy was already a little disappointed that he wasn’t successful about his first try on his bike but when he hears Tommy’s news, he feels even worse. He starts to think about the possibility of falling off the bike again when he tries next and what he didn’t do right the first time. Jimmy really starts to analyze his experience and second guess his ability to ever ride his bike. The memory that gets stored in his brain bank is negative in nature, full of disappointment and lacking confidence. The reality is if Jimmy doesn’t jump right back on his bike again the next night, his doubt will grow, his confidence will slip further and he will have serious thoughts of being a failure.

You Paint The Picture Now tell me, how do you think this negative paradigm will impact Jimmy’s future challenges, not only as a kid but later in life as well? Can you see how paradigms are created by your thoughts and beliefs over time? How you interpret your experience in the present, has a direct impact on your behavior in the future. Clearly, the picture that Jimmy has painted in his mind of his bike experience will not be a positive but a negative one, so the memory that gets sent to his “memory database” will create a negative paradigm or mindset. Okay, it’s time for a little more hard love, here’s the reality of paradigms; you and only you attract what you focus on in your life. That’s right, who we are and who we become, are created

by our own thoughts, in our own minds. Are you getting this, is it starting to sink in? It’s one thing for a young kid who’s not aware of paradigms and there impact on future behavior, to create a negative mindset but as a mature, responsible adult, you have to take accountability for your actions and what you fill your head with, noise or good stuff. Positive thoughts and actions can never produce bad results; likewise negative thoughts and actions can never produce good results. I can remember two specific points in my life, where like Jimmy, past negative experiences have colored my paradigm and had a negative impact on my behavior in the future.

A Life Experience When I graduated from college, because my dad was ill and my mother was working two jobs to keep the family going, I decided to get into sales, so I could make the most money possible to help my family. I always thought I was a pretty cocky and confident kid, someone who didn’t scare easily. But I’ll tell you, after I went through a one week crash course in sales and had to get on the phone to call clients and schedule appointments, I found out how much of a chicken I really was. I mean, my hands would actually get clammy, as I thought about picking up the phone, dialing and talking to prospects. I would procrastinate for as long as possible to pick up the phone and even when I did, I was so nervous, that my mouth would get so dry, I couldn’t talk if I wanted to. You know that awful cotton mouth feeling, when you can actually taste the fear. It wasn’t until I realized that all the fear and emotion was simply “noise”in my head that I was creating based on my paradigm, Where did I get the behavior from, well actually, I believe I created it when I was younger based on my dads medical situation. You see, back in the ’60′s, people in general were not as educated about cancer as they are today. Believe it or not, some people actually thought it was contagious. As a result, when someone was diagnosed with a terminal illness like cancer, many people related to you like they did to did to people in the ’80′s who were diagnosed with AIDS. After my father had surgery and went through his round of chemotherapy and radiation he was released from his company. I’m not sure if his company thought he was no longer able to do his job or they were afraid that his disease was contagious or both; all I know is that he was released from his job, which put my family in an even tougher financial situation. So, I grew up not trusting corporate America or the white collar world, yet I felt that was where I could make the most money the quickest to help my family, so there I was. So you see, my paradigm was based on fear and mistrust regarding my dad’s illness and corporate experience. I colored my world with those thoughts, which then led to the emotions and actions that I carried out. Do yourself a favor, I mean this can really change your life; remember, you are what you think about most often and you attract into your life exactly what you think about most often. It’s that simple.
