Your self-esteem is more than simply how you view yourself. It can alter everything from your productivity at work to your physical health. A low self-esteem could hinder romance, cleanliness of the home, and cause a great deal of anxiety and/or depression. Although there are pharmaceutical methods that can alter this perception of yourself, there are ways that you can help reinforce your personal outlook without medication. Everyone is different and not every method works for each individual, but they can be means to help discover what works best for your own situation.
1. Honesty – Being honest with yourself is the first step into finding yourself. Although you may lie to others in order to make your life seem more than it truly is, lying to yourself is only detrimental to enlightenment. In everything you do, say, or action you take, be honest with yourself and truly view what makes you who you are.
2. Self Resumé- Pretend that you are working for a client who needs a resume. This client is yourself and needs an honest opinion in order to land the perfect job. Create a resumé of your knowledge, accomplishments, and goals as you would an actual resume for this job. This is your application for life. Again, be honest with yourself. Include anything that makes you a better person. Don’t lie on your life-resumé, but don’t leave out personal skills or accomplishments. Even if you think they are small or meaningless, include them. You need to build this client up so that the employer would want to hire them to work at life.
3. Accomplishments – Every time you accomplish a goal or a task, make a big deal out of it. While it may seem more like a method you would use on a child, the technique works for all ages. Even if it is a small personal goal or a task you didn’t think you could do, have a party. And although it may seem like you are celebrating a menial task to others, remind them that you are celebrating life and everything that it has to offer.
4. Blogging – Technology is there for you to use, why not use it? Pick a subject you are truly interested in learning. As you are teaching yourself this new subject, write a blog about it. There are a great deal of blogs on the Internet that are created by those who don’t know the material, but use the blog to help build their knowledge and share with others. Comments provided by others can help you learn this new subject and provide insights you didn’t have before.
How does this help you? Because when all is said and done, knowledge is the one thing nobody can take from you regardless of how hard they may try. It is something that is intangible but will travel with you always. It’s something you can put 100% faith into as it will never falter. Sharing your experiences with others can also help get doubts of the subject off of your chest and help open yourself up to others as they have no faces.
Those who suffer from self-doubt and low self-esteem are plagued by a life that can be anything but ideal. Improving the outlook of yourself could help build confidence and put you into positions and situations that could be greatly beneficial. Whether you immerse yourself into your career or muster the courage to ask someone out on a date, the way you view yourself is evident to all those around you and confidence brings victory.
