How many times a day do you glance at your watch? All of us are keenly aware of time – how much we have, how much we need, and how much is left. Many people would probably agree that it often feels like there should be more than 24 hours in a day. The real question is do we really need more time or better time management? Since expanding a day past 24 hours is unlikely, it is worth examining how we can better budget the time we have.
Suppose you have a list of 10 items to accomplish in a given period of time. The first thing you need to assess is the priority level of these items. Make sure that the most important items are scheduled to be worked on first. It is also a good idea to delegate work whenever you can. As long as you can rest assured that those jobs will be done in a first rate manner it makes sense to let other people help.

A solid routine can allow you to go through a mental checklist of items (many of which do not demand your undivided attention) and can lend clarity to the ‘free time’ and how to make better use of it. Being aware of the time you spend on tasks will help to identify areas that you could scale back on or eliminate from your daily routine. Combine tasks whenever possible and order them in a way that will create a flow and not leave you waiting… waiting is a big time-waster!
