Achieving a healthy self esteem takes time and effort; however the happiest people are those that don’t judge other people or their behaviour as well as treating themselves and others with kindness and love. If having a healthy, happier self esteem is something you wish you could do – just follow these seven easy steps.
1. Make Decisions
Everything about our current lifestyle, our future, our self awareness and our self esteem is a result of the decisions we make. We make daily decisions about our lifestyle, such as what we eat, whether we eat healthily or not, whether we exercise and what we are going to wear – but we like to put our self esteem and confidence down to luck and past choices!
It is important to remember that we DO control everything about our lives – including our confidence and self esteem. It is simply a case of making a new decision and not repeating those old decisions we make in our past.
Once you realise this, you can then begin to live the life you want to live and become who you want to be. Spend the time discovering your own unique talents and gifts, as knowing who you are and what you can do will help improve your confidence and self esteem. This, in turn will enable you to be even happier and allow you to make the right decisions for your future.
2. Assess Who You are
Make a list of all the things you like and dislike about yourself. Then spend time developing a plan to start changing your negatives into positives. It is also worth ensuring your positives remain that way – so nurture them to ensure you encourage growth in those areas too.
Ensure you hang around with others who have similar personalities or who share your goals, as like does attract like. Making friends with people who have qualities you aspire to have is a good way of boosting your own self esteem, ensures your future happiness and keeps you on track.
3. Use Affirmations
Using positive self talk will do wonders for your self esteem. You can achieve this by using your list of positives and turning them into affirmations. This reinforces those positive attributes of your personality. Use phrases such as ‘I am’ or ‘I have now’. You can also use this format to voice the changes you would like to see on those that are currently in your negative list. Just remember to keep each as a positive ‘I am’ or ‘I now have’ and repeat each positive thought regularly throughout your day.
4. Forgive Your Past
Forgiving yourself for past mistakes is a big part of moving yourself and your self esteem forward. You cannot focus on your future if you are constantly focusing on your mistakes. No matter how much you beat yourself up over the past, it cannot be changed. So, do yourself a favour and allow yourself to move on – it will do wonders for your self esteem.
5. Treat Yourself With Respect
Treating yourself with respect ensures that you are setting the right example for others to follow. You cannot expect others to talk nicely to you or respect your boundaries, if you talk down to yourself and disrespect your body yourself. Treat yourself right. Be a friend to yourself and your body. Talk nicely to yourself, eat healthy and dress nicely – your confidence and self esteem will be boosted as a result.
6. Practice Gratitude
Being thankful for your self esteem, confidence and everything else you already have, ensures that you will continue to receive those things – and more. Again, it is all about focus; if you are focused on what you don’t have, you won’t notice opportunities to have what you do want!
7. Believe in Yourself
You dictate your own fate. Don’t live your life doing what ‘you should’ do, or what others expect you to do – this will destroy your self esteem. Believe in your own abilities and believe you deserve to have the life you want – that way, you can achieve anything you set your heart on – and your self esteem will flourish.
If you know yourself, like yourself, treat yourself right and are grateful for everything you have, your confidence and self esteem will soar to new heights.
