Obesity is continuously in the news these days and we see video after video of obese children and adults walking down the street with the camera focused on their behinds while they announcer give the statistics and talks about the dangers associated with being overweight. Diet books are being proliferating, new diet pills are advertised on TV and the Internet and one of the most popular TV reality shows is “The Biggest Loser.” Weight loss is a multi-billion dollar industry and everyone seems to want to get in on it.
Deutsch and Schweitzer have recently published their book, Calorie Wars: Fat, Fact and Fiction that is an attempt to give people the “real skinny” (pun intended) on diets that are based on anything other than calorie reduction.
Their premise is “Eat well, eat less and exercise” accompanied by changing your relationship with food. They set out to keep the book short and to stick with the facts. They claim, “This slim volume contains everything you need to lose weight and keep it off, and nothing extraneous to that specific goal. “
They accomplished their goal. It is short. It is superbly done and can be the only book a new dieter needs. For a young person or someone who does not have a history yo-yo dieting diet who needs to shed some pounds this is the perfect guide.
For those “professional dieters,” for the senior who needs to lose significant weight, and for those whose bodies just doesn’t respond, I recommend a program that includes close monitoring by a physician, behavior modification, and a work up that includes testing for food allergies and other hindrances to weight loss.
This book is easy to read, easy to follow, gives you great suggestions and can possibly be the only weight loss book you need. It has terrific resources listed to aid you in your weight loss journey – including some outstanding on-line resources to help you track your progress. His website is http://drlarry.com/. I encourage you to check out his weight loss hypnosis recordings while you’re there. With the book, they are a dyn-o-mite package.
