10 Self-Care Tips for Businesswomen
Start small by adopting one (or a few) of the following self-care tips for businesswomen that best fit your lifestyle and interest.
#1. Stay Hydrated
Drinking water is crucial in order for your body to perform its best and can have a range of benefits such as:
- Improves the functioning of bladder and kidney
- Keeps your muscles and joints healthy
- Keeps bad breath at bay and improves your oral hygiene
- Prevents your skin from looking dry and dull
- Improves your blood flow
Staying hydrated also enhances your memory. Drinking more water throughout the day is one of the easiest self-care tips for business women so why not drink a glass now?
#2. Eat Nutritious Foods
Even though this tip applies to everyone, businesswomen are infamous for their poor eating habits.
Sure, eating healthy can require additional effort and cost more but it has the following benefits:
- Enhances reaction time
- Helps you feel more relaxed
- Increases optimism
- Helps you feel more energetic
- Boosts your mood
A balanced diet is a must. You can also start by making small changes such as switching from aerated drinks to fresh juices and eating a handful of nuts instead of a packet of chips.
#3. Practice Mindfulness
Do you feel like you’re not getting ahead even though you’re spending every waking second working as hard as you can?
Unfortunately, this is happening because you’re tired and stressed and no matter how hard you think you’re working, you’re just not giving your best.
The key is to take out at least 15 minutes every day for self-reflection. Focus on your breath and meditate to reduce stress which in turn will help you run your business better.
Studies have shown that individuals who practice mindfulness have happier employees. This means that your employees will give their best when they’re happy and relaxed enhancing your overall productivity.
Exercise not only helps you stay fit but also helps you feel happy. Your body releases endorphins (chemicals that make you feel happy) when you exercise. Exercising as little as 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week will make a massive difference to your life.
This is by far my favorite self-care tips for businesswomen. When you take out time for yourself and disengage from everyone and everything around you, you give your body a chance to connect with yourself.
For some, this might mean a day at the spa without their phone. For others, it might be practising a hobby they truly enjoy such as pottery or painting.
Being in a relaxed state of mind will help you feel calm and in control of your life. It’ll also reduce stress and help you feel optimistic.
This way you can recharge yourself. Trust me, this newfound energy will help you tackle all your work issues better.
#6. Learn to Say ‘NO’
If you instantly want to improve your life, start saying no to things that aren’t important. Politely declining favours will help you keep sane and strike a balance between work and personal life.
Don’t let people take you for granted and do things that actually matter.
Outsource and delegate all those tasks that can be done by someone better. For instance, I hire freelancers for everything from setting up my server to designing graphics for my social media.
Research has shown that spending time with our loved ones has a strong impact on our health.
While spending time with them each day isn’t practical, take out time on your weekends. Meet your friends for movies or plan out a lunch date with your girlfriends. If not, you can invite your friends and family for a weekend brunch or go out for a picnic.
#8. Take Breaks
Rejuvenate yourself by taking breaks throughout the day. Additionally, take a few days off work to go on a vacation.
Treat yourself to reap the benefits at work!
#9. Get Enough Sleep
Your body needs at least 7 hours of sleep every night. Anything below that will make you exhausted and lead to a burn out in a few weeks or months.
You tend to fall asleep faster and better when your mind is at ease. I suggest not taking your phone in your bedroom and reading a book to sleep better.
#10. Learn to Work Smarter
Separating work and personal life can be tough especially if you’ve just started your business.
Creating a plan every day will help you tackle important tasks while helping you stay on your schedule. Simply write down your routine for the day with an approximate time. For instance:
Meeting with Roxanne 11 15 – 11 45
Meeting with client 12 – 1 30
Lunch 1 30 – 2
Team meeting 2 – 4
Katie’s annual day performance 5 – 7 30
Dinner at mom and dad’s 8 30 – 10 30
This will help you seamlessly navigate throughout your day and help you stay focused on the task at hand.
Work hard but also have a healthy, fulfilling personal life. The key is to take small, actionable steps to strike a work-life balance.
Start by incorporating these effective self-care hacks for businesswomen. Commit to them to start noticing a difference in the quality of your personal and professional life!
