"Every Day in Every Way, I’m Getting Better and Better" Really? - Self Improvement

“Every Day in Every Way, I’m Getting Better and Better” Really?

Remember the saying of Emile Coué “Everyday in every way I’m getting better and better?”

Getting Better and Better

Way back in the 1980s I was introduced to affirmations and this is the one I was given. I was instructed to say it at least 100 times a day and more than that if possible. And I did. I did it faithfully.

Every day.

Every day for weeks I went around mumbling, in sing-song fashion, “Every day in every way I’m getting better and better” without a thought to what I was saying. I was doing exactly as instructed. Most days I exceeded the limit.

Guess what changed? Nothing!

I really needed something to happen. It seemed that I was in deeper trouble than I realized at the time—in trouble physically, emotionally and spiritually. Unaware, I was getting ready for the big crash that came later when I was in bed for several months with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (some say CFS is not a real ailment but if you’ve been there you know it’s real). Not only was I not getting better, I was getting “worser and worser.” (please excuse the grammar.)

Affirmations are only one piece of the puzzle and they CAN be very powerful if executed properly. You see, you have to have some “buy in” to what you are saying and you must feel it in your body. I might as well have said, “Yeah, right” in a voice of disbelieve after I muttered each one.

I didn’t know I was supposed to say it with awareness, conviction, emotion (even passion) and put into action those things that helped me get better and better.

This was long before I understood the power of the subconscious mind.

It was CFS that introduced me to Louise Hay and her classic, You Can Heal Your Life. It changed me. I learned the power of affirmations and much, much more.  Read what she says about affirmations.

What about you?  Are you getting better and better on a daily basis? What would “getting better” look like to you? Do you know what part of you needs to change? Have you defined what part of you needs to improve? What part of you is begging you to notice and do something about it?

What are your “getting better” goals? Do you have any?

What if your goal was to start eating healthier food so you would have more energy? And as you reached for the Twinkie and as you said, “Every day in every way I getting better and better” you bit into that bomb of sugar and preservatives? I can guarantee the affirmation wouldn’t work. But what if as you said it you put the Twinkie back and walked to the produce section and picked up some strawberries or an apple? As you munched, you visualized the healthy effects of fresh fruit and felt stronger in your resolve to eat better?  Your goal, your affirmation and your action are in sync.

Goal + Affirmation + Action = Success

You might adopt the equation: a clear goal + an affirmation said with awareness and conviction + action = SUCCESS.

It’s just a tiny little change that can make a big difference.

I’m just sayin.’

Cant’t hurt.
