Finding Self-Growth Opportunities in Your Day Job - Self Improvement

Finding Self-Growth Opportunities in Your Day Job

Following your passions is an important aspect of life for you to dive into to find not only self-actualization but also people who share your worldviews and ethics. Although your job doesn’t define you, working in a career that allows you to be yourself and practice skill sets that go hand in hand with your passions can contribute to self-growth and positivity in your life. This is especially true because it’s difficult to dive into meaningful hobbies when you’re exhausted and unhappy with your full-time job.

Whether you’re looking to pursue your dreams or simply wanting to pursue a more fulfilling career, it’s never too late to change your course and bring more positivity into your life.

Changing Jobs for Self-Growth

There are many reasons you might want to change your full-time job. Perhaps the pay isn’t great, the management is unprofessional, the company ethics are not in line with your own, or you might just want a job that makes you feel like you’re making a positive contribution in the world. For most people, a job is simply where you go to make a living; however, there are more opportunities than you may realize to change what you’re doing and find something that suits you better.

Finding a redeemable career path is a step towards fostering positivity in your life, especially if you hate your current job and dread going to work every day. Hating a job can often cause you to become depressed and unhappy in your day-to-day life, and mental illness can even begin to affect your physical health. If you hate your job, keep an eye out for signs that your job is making you sick, such as sleeplessness, oversleeping, weight loss, weight gain, fatigue, or reclusiveness.

Is your job making you sick?

These symptoms can occur when dealing with high levels of stress, as stress can weaken the immune system and cause changes in diet and sleep patterns. Even if your job is not inherently stressful, it can be stress and anxiety-inducing to hate going to work every day and feeling like you don’t have any other option but to do so.

If you feel like you’re out of options and it’s causing negative and hopeless feelings, try to remember that it’s never too late to open the door for new opportunities. If you regret not going to college but school was never your strong point, consider attending a trade school where you will learn practical skills for completing a job, often in less than a year. Trade jobs typically offer competitive pay and offer opportunities for growth and the opportunity to be your own boss.

Self-Growth for Happiness

Self-actualization is a drive or need present in everyone, and regards the realization or fulfillment of your talent and potential. This is considered the ultimate goal for people who are striving towards happiness. We are all individuals with our own ideas and potential, and our personal upbringings provide us with a perspective that is different from everyone else’s. While people often strive for money, fame, and glory, self-actualization is about reaching our true potential and finding what makes us happy.

Even if the path of happiness doesn’t involve furthering your education, you should still seek a job where you can surround yourself with things you love; such as a job at a bookstore, a coffee shop, or taking care of animals. Job interviews can be intimidating when they’re for jobs you’re passionate about. However, if you care about the position you’re applying for, you should remain positive and confident to nail the job interview. Positive self-talk is a crucial component to achieving and living your dreams.

No matter what you’re doing for an income, remaining positive throughout each day is the most important thing to leading a happy life. However, if you aren’t happy at your current job and feel like you could be doing more, you’re probably right. Exercise your untapped potential and find a job where you can truly shine.
