Use Confidence and Self-Esteem to Fulfill Dreams, New Year Resolutions and Daily Goals
Self-Confidence, self-esteem and self-worth . . . all are vitally important qualities in a person’s day-to-day life. They are also important qualities that contribute to (or detract from) the successful pursuit of dreams, New Year Resolutions and daily goals. In my experience, when I pursue a dream, I fully understand that I must step out of the so-called ‘comfort zone’, and try and learn new things, which in turn leads to mistakes, and occasional failures. It takes courage, conviction, strength, and commitment to fulfill a dream (and face and overcome fears, potential mistakes, and failures). Based on that, it would seem that dreams are not meant for the ‘weak of heart’. Some folks, in fact, give up far too early, or don’t try at all, because of fear of failure, fear of success and the responsibility that it creates, concern that they don’t possess the knowledge and skills to succeed, or unrealistic expectations (setting the bar too high, or trying to do too much too fast).
At the outset if you want to increase the odds of succeeding it helps to have a simple system – a step-by-step process – that will guide you on your journey. I advocate a simple five-step system. In the beginning you have to open your mind to the possibility that you can and will succeed – suspend disbelief – you must ‘Dare To Dream’. You must make a committed ‘Decision’ to ‘go for it’, and be willing to work hard day after day. You must begin with a dream about which you have intense passion, interest and desire. You must ‘Define’ specifically ‘what you intend to achieve’, and know ‘why and how you are going to achieve it’. Being specific enables you to ‘Develop A Plan’ that lays out all the necessary steps (that also means you have to do your homework throughout your journey because your plan will grow and change as you grow, change and succeed). Finally, you must ‘Do It Daily’ – achieve one small goal after another until you fulfill your dream!
What I describe above is a simple, common sense I Resolve To . . . Formula For Success – a guide. Beyond that, a person’s ability to succeed hinges on his or her level of confidence and self-esteem. All too often folks short-change themselves. They don’t give themselves credit for the skills, knowledge, wins, triumphs, successes that they have chalked up in life – achievements that can serve as important assets when pursuing a dream. If you are ‘going for the gold’ – pursuing a dream – factor in the accomplishments that you begin the process with. Then, continue to remind yourself, daily, about each and every victory and accomplishment that you rack up after you begin the journey toward fulfilling your dream. Your enthusiasm and momentum will flourish with each new achievement! Celebrate those wins often. They will help you to build confidence, self-esteem and self-worth.
Success does breed success. Momentum, enthusiasm, confidence, excitement builds – one small step at a time, one day at a time, one small achievement at a time – and ultimately, collectively, results in a rich, rewarding, beautiful tapestry that is you and your dream. Be positive, patient, passionate, and persistent as you make your journey. Most importantly, believe in yourself, your talents, your dream, and never ever give up. The joy, reward and fulfillment will far outweigh any pain and hardship that you must endure if you persist and ultimately capture your dream.
